One week after Calvin Harris' sold out, back to the Ibiza Rocks Hotel for a very special gig with the first band to ever play for Ibiza Rocks. As reported back then by the one and only Dr Mick, Ibiza Rocks started the indie invasion of Ibiza 5 years ago in the back room of Privilege with a promising young band called Maxïmo Park. As we all know, and as it happened with many other new bands they brought to the island, Maxïmo Park became a huge band so it was a privilege to have them back!
The new Manchester band Everything Everything, signed on Geffen and about to released their debut album, were the first to hit the stage with songs like "Schoolin" or "MY KZ, UR BF" which sounded fantastic live. Stars in the making and we had the chance to see them before they explode!
BBC Radio 1's Kissy Sell Out was back but this time for a dj set (plus another one in Es Paradis' after show later) instead of bringing his band like last year!
The return of Maxïmo Park was as memorable as expected. Paul Smith danced and moved from side to side of the stage non-stop (loved his acrobatic jumps a la David Lee Roth)... what a great frontman. Their reputation as one of the UK's most exciting live bands is well deserved. They played songs from their three albums plus a new song. The security staff had more work than usual with all the bodies flying around and even some moshpits... brilliant!
The Prodigy next week for the 5th anniversary party with tickets almost sold out... it's gonna be absolute madness!!!
Favourite moment of the night: the explosive rendition of the Maxïmo Park classic "Apply some pressure"!
