After the busiest Ibiza Rocks gig of the summer last week with Dizzee Rascal, last night we had an eclectic line-up with hip hop and drum'n'bass plus indie rock and more in between... a bit of everything, just what the doctor ordered!
Like Calvin Harris, the rapper Tinie Tempah seems to be one of the most in-demand artists this summer judging by all the promoters that booked him (Ibiza Rocks/Swedish House Mafia/Clubland/Come Together)... you can't beat seeing him live in an open air venue though. His show included songs from his upcoming debut album plus a cover of Lady Gaga's "Bad romance" (!) and the crowd, described by him as one of the liveliest he ever played for, loved it from beginning to end!
You know where you are? You're in the jungle, baby... oh yeah. No, Axl Rose & co didn't come out by surprise and started playing "Welcome to the jungle"... that's the sample used at the beginning of "Smash TV", the first Chase & Status song of the night. Having done various dj sets for Reclaim The Dancefloor in the past, this time the combo was back to do their first proper live show on the island accompanied by some guest MCs on different tunes. Apart from songs of their first album, we got a taste of their new one which should be out at the end of the year... brilliant stuff!
Chase & Status was one of my fave Ibiza Rocks gigs so far... actually, it was the night I realized I like drum'n'bass much more than what I thought. Looking forward to see The Kooks again next week, one of the bands I enjoyed the most last summer, and sing along all their songs!
Favourite moment of the night: the crazy moshpits during Chase & Status' show... let's see if Pendulum can beat that!
