After last week's event hosted by Playboy, this week saw the return of Calvin Harris to the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. As expected, first sold out of the season (and there will be more for sure) with the doors open 30 minutes earlier than usual to welcome the masses of fans of the Dumfries disco don. That's the one, someone from the organization said to me when I first arrived... and he was right. By 7 o'clock there was a looong queue outside already with people waiting to get in where the action is!
Do you know when you hear a band for the first time and you like it instantly? Well, that's how I felt last night with the new electronic pop band Diagram of the Heart. I can't remember ever seeing so many people for the first band of the evening so that was great for them as it means a lot of exposure... the singer even proclaimed, before presenting their last song, this was the best gig they've ever done. Looking forward to hear more of their stuff... in the meantime, their debut single "Dead famous" is out on iTunes in a few days (a group of ten or so fans were promoting it with t-shirts). Another great discovery thanks to the Ibiza Rocks chaps!
After a short pause to grab another drink and to check the result of the Uruguay vs Holland match on the TV of the bar, time for more live music. One year later but much more popular, the singer Example and his band were back to present their recently released second album. By the euphoric reaction of people you would think he was the headliner... I didn't realize Example was so popular, something that was confirmed later on in the packed after show at Es Paradis were (accompanied by dj Wire) people went nuts with his show!
The day after his successful gig at the Mallorca Rocks Hotel (which predicts weekly events in the neighbour island next season after this year's 5 dates), Calvin Harris landed in Ibiza for more of the same: mass hysteria. He played songs from both albums and everybody, from the front row to the more far away balconies, was dancing non-stop. Getting a general view from the VIP terrace upstairs I couldn't help to imagine how it will be like during the next weeks with the likes of The Prodigy and Dizzee Rascal... jeez. More nights like this, please!
Epic night that continued at Es Paradis, where the Ibiza Rocks after show is getting better and better every week (the busiest night in the club along with Clubland and Hed Kandi) so well done. As every week, the members of all the bands were in attendance at the VIP. The mighty Maxïmo Park nex week... yeehaa!
Favourite moment of the night: the whole concert of Diagram Of The Heart!
