What a crappy feeling knowing I was crossing the doors of the Ibiza Rocks Hotel for the last time this year... but with the 2012 dates already confirmed and the announcement of a new weekend event with big dj's at the hotel next season the wait will be a bit easier I suppose. Anyhow, let's get on with it...
Shortly after his appearance at Ibiza Rocks in 2005, Tom Vek retired from the music industry but six years later he's back with his sophomore album Leisure seizure that sounds more Talking Heads than ever. The indie-electro genius played equally from his two albums but the clear winner of the night was the final song, the crunchy "Aroused"!
Folk-pop band Noah And The Whale played mostly songs from their third album Last night on earth, with which they separated themselves from the nu-folk that they've been associated with in the past to embrace a more commercial sound clearly influenced by the likes of Bruce Springsteen ("Tonight's the kind of night") or Tom Petty ("L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N."). Their grandiose sing-a-longs worked a treat!
Headlining last night's varied line-up we had Zane Lowe, who was back for the fourth time this year to close the season in style with his usual eclectic mash up of styles (so eclectic I'm sure some people were a bit confused when he threw Slayer's "Raining blood" in the mix!!!). Afterwards we all headed to some of the after parties happening at the Ibiza Rocks Bar, Es Paradis or, in my case, Pikes where the shenanigans continued till ridiculously late!
Favourite moment: singing my heart out during NATW's "Tonight's the kind of night"
Another season is over and how good it was: lots of fantastic concerts, lots of fun afters, lots of interesting people met and lots of exciting music discovered along the way... thanks Ibiza Rocks!
