In 2010 Ibiza Rocks brought The Prodigy to celebrate their 5th birthday party so the bar was high, very high. How could they top that one? What about with the best live band in the world (according to this year's NME Awards)?! Biffy Clyro attracted more residents than anybody else this season and it was the busiest night so far along with Fatboy Slim!
Morning Parade were the opening act. They haven't released any album yet (the long awaited debut has been pushed back to early 2012) so, maybe with the exception of the brilliant single "Under the stars" (with which they started), a lot of people were listening songs like "A&E" or "Your majesty" for the first time. Judging by the reaction of the crowd, they gained many fans last night!
Zane Lowe doesn't need presentation. He mixed everything there is to mix and entertained the crowd with his showman style!
After last year's spectacular show at the opening party (my fave of the whole season), Biffy Clyro were back on the island. Even if there was no new material to present this time, as since their last visit they only released a b-sides compilation and a live album, they played a new song called "The joke's on us" that will be part of their sixth studio album. Apart from that, we've got a nice selection of songs including three from their pre-mainstream success years (that always remind me of my beloved Sunny Day Real Estate). Best concert of the summer so far by a mile... mon the Biff!
Then off to the private after party for a wee bit, where the bands and their entourage plus some lucky guests continued with the celebrations till the early hours. Happy birthday Ibiza Rocks... may you celebrate manymanymany more!
Favourite moment: the last two songs of the night, "Many of horror" and "Mountains", with everybody in the hotel singing along at the top of their voices... that's what Ibiza Rocks is all about!
