Ibiza & House Music........Here We Go........

...... Haven't posted on here for a while, mainly cause I ain't been to Ibiza since 2003. :(

I just hoped I could get some good feedback from people on the direction that Ibiza is going. Now before you all get bored to death, I don't wanna talk about, is it still the club capital of the world, is the magic still there etc etc bull, forget it, its boring.

If we're all honest, apart from the odd nice day of beach/scenery (which you could get anywhere in the world) and the general holiday vibe, food/drink and better weather than where you live, everyone is there for the music and the clubs, agree? great lets move on..

I first went to Ibiza in 1995, yeah I ain't Paul Oakenfold or Danny Rampling, but I've seen 8 years of change in Ibiza. I've had some of the best nights of my life in Ibiza, end of, without the detail.

But what is apparent to me now, that, not in a cheesy way, commercialism, has ruined the feeling, Ibiza is no longer a place for being who you want to be, its about being someone else, and the music is put to one side.

Where are the roots in HOUSE music, being pushed on the island now? DefMix, maybe, but where else?? the small little special places like Sa Trincha, what happened to Pin Up, that could have been one of the best clubs on the island but the powers that be ruined it, cause its all about money and the big clubs having control.

Space, for me, has always been overrated ever since the first two years I went before Home/We Love Sundays etc, when they played happy music ont he terrace abd people really were happy. Lets face it, they never turned the music up on the terrace for years, I'd rather be on my hotel balcony that paying 30 Euros to listen to dark music in the afternoon.

I'm gonna leave this there cause I could write forever on it, but where has the place that I hold so special in my heart gone? Don't get me wrong, I aint a cynic, I just want to go back to Ibiza and for it to be as good as it should, not overrun with far too many crap nights.

Anyone got any thoughts, apart from me being nuts

Certainly not me, whilst i love the music scene, clubs are only one small attraction of the island, the atmostphere for me has got better and better of the last 7 years since i started going there

on this message board yes. on the island no. this board is totally unrepresentative of the make up of tourism to the island.

Thanks, but I knew that already, I'm trying to get people's opinions on this message board, I'm not doing a survey of everyone who gets off the plane.

Can we cut the tittle tattle please and just have some discussion?

Don't know about the rest but Ibiza still remains the mecca for electronic music. That's still where you here the best tunes, of all varieties (and there is a LOT of variety). That's still where the producers and dj's come to test their new tunes in clubs. That's still where you can catch up with the state of electronic music in just a few days!

You also get a hell of a lot of good djs there. What works in Ibiza drives the direction of dance music for the rest of the year. True, there are genres and styles that emerge throughout the year, but Ibiza (albeit driven to some extent by the WMC) seems to be the meeting point between the underground and the commercial. Lesser known labels and promoters gain a foothold there (witness the emergence over the past three years or so of Hed Kandi and the whole funky house scene, and before that the trance scene) and more exposure = more tunes, more djs. There's always going to be a huge element of commercialism because the clubs, bars, labels and promoters exist to earn money, but if you enjoy it and can afford it so what?

So the so called 'Superclub mafia' exists? Is this why smaller clubs are getting pushed out of the picture?
Buy them out, then liquidate.

To be honest, I don't think the beaches in Ibiza are any special, you can find beaches much better than the ones from the island all over the world. What is special about Ibiza is the clubbing scene, this is what makes the island special and magical.
