Ibiza Horse Valley

Me and my other half got back from the island a few hours ago and monday we went to the Horse Valley. I contacted Davide and Monique after reading your peice on spotlight and they arranged a full day for us. We met them for coffee in San Joan along with a french couple, they where lovely people and Davide chatted with us and chose the horses which would suit us best, my missus is an experienced rider so i booked it for her but nonetheless i was looking forward to it aswell. We where introduced to the horses in the valley and Davide told us a few stories about them and how they got there. Me and the wife joked about how i would get the horse named clown.... and what dya know.. thats who i got... We groomed the horses first, i think it was an introduction to them and us then we started the ride up through the mountains. Davide called it the "black forest" after the horendous fires last year. We rode to cala den serra where we had drinks and lunch and a good chat with our new friends.

Davide then went to get one of the horses who where having there own refreshments just round the corner, he fetched the horse called "manuel" and walked him into the sea, the horse was loving every second and one by one he called us all into the water and we rode him while he swam. I've never riden a horse until today next thing im actually riding one while he was swimming.. 8O.. a truly amazing experience, the whole beach was taking pictures and filming us. After we had one more drink and we rode home mainly on the winding roads this time, the views up there are spectacular. We arrived back at the valley and Davide and monique made us all drinks while the horses cooled down enough for us to shower them and we then led them back down to the valley.

All in all a very long and tiring day from about 9am untill 8pm ish but worth every second to meet two such wonderful people in Davide and monique who are truly inspiring and to meet such beautiful animals that are learning to trust us humans again.

Thanks to you guys at spotlight this is a treasure of a find and we will certainly be going back and staying in touch With everyone at the horse valley. As i say i only got back a few hours ago so i'll post a few pics when im sorted..

Really glad you went here ... was trying to arrange a sleep over camp on the beach with the horses last month but apparently they won't do it in August on account of too much pollution / people on the beaches and it being too hot to have the horses away from base for so long. :(

Quick question on access - did you have to hire a 4 x 4 to get to them or did Davide come and pick you up from somewhere nearby ?

I did this in Camargue recently and also a couple of years ago off Puerto Rico. They really love to swim and it's a really great experience .. did they take off the saddles in the water so you can ride them bareback ? :D

Friend of mine keeps rescue horses and swims them at the weekend off the beach in Kent ... in her wetsuit :p ... would love to take her over to the island to meet Davide and Monique.

We had a little hyundai for the 10 days we where there, we followed davide and monique up in that, although it was a tricky drive up there its ok as long as you take your time.

It was bareback in the water holding only the mane as its easy to pull on the reigns pulling the horses head in the water as davide explained as he guided us round. He gave thw missus the reigns as she went round on her own with the reigns out wide.

Davide rang the missus when we got to ibiza as i told him she rides as he needed her to bring up the rear otherwise we may have not riden as the rest of us where all novices.
