Next Saturday the annual excursion to see the almond trees in flower in Santa Ines will leave the Town Hall square at 8:00 p.m. Weather and blossoms permitting, to see this magnificent sight by the light of the full moon is something that many people look forward to all year. According to folklore, when the Arabs conquered the island the King's beautiful daughter missed the sight of the snow in the country where she had spent her youth, and cried. On seeing her sadness, her father decided to plant almond trees in the esplanade in Santa Inés so that, at least during one month each year, she would be reminded of the snow of her homeland. True or not, it really is a spectacle worth visiting, and this year the weather has been particularly benign and the flowers have lasted for more than the month that the King promised his daughter.
