Ibiza Books...

Following on from the Observer article post...

It is really interesting and makes me wanna read more, only not via the Oakenfold autobiography. Can anyone recommend anything ? I imagine there is not much literature documenting such tales but there must be a few out there...

If no one saw this post, basically I would really like any recommendations for books on the whole, now clichéd, origin of what we know now to be Ibiza, i. e. late 80's, or even Ibiza in the 60's, and also anything on the whole East London rave scene thing in like the late 80's. Anything alone those lines, I'm in desperate need of a decent book, havn't finished last about 5 due to utter dryness.

These are all really good books on the whole history of clubbing:
Wayne Anthony - Class of 88
Wayne Anthony - Spanish Highs - Sex, Drugs and Excess in Ibiza
Sheryl Garratt - Adventures in Wonderland
Matthew Collins - Altered State - Story of Ecstasy and Acid House
Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton - Last Night a DJ Saved my Life

Some of them are a few years old so not sure if they're widely available but try Amazon.

Stephen Armstrong - The White Island is just about Ibiza but the whole package not just clubbing, again a really good read.

Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton - Last Night a DJ Saved my Life

The bible of house and clubland!:D

Seriously, the greatest read a dance music fan can ever get. Utterly amazing, I've got to be due for a re-read of it in a couple of months...

I loved this book. Really interesting. Anyone interested in dance music/clubbing should have a read of it.

I've read it more than once too.

Reading this at the moment. Very interesting book, but some might be put off by all the historical detail.

No this is a quality book and even the historical stuff I found quite interesting and put a whole new light on the Island.
The Wayne Athony books are ok, some of the tales seem well just like tales but it's ok.
Altered State is a wicked book too.

I didn't like Thie White Island by Stephen Armstrong, if you already love Ibiza you already know the history.
I found it quite a dull read, sorry.

I think Altered state is one of the best dealing with the scene, the description of coming up at the start is a great read. I found The White Island a bit laboured at times but generally a good read.

I'd take a lot of the Wayne Anthony Stuff with a pinch of salt to be honest, its a good laugh alright.

I thought the Stephen Armstrong book was a good read.
Whilst I knew some of the islands history I didn't have the complete picture and thought this really helped to fill in the blanks.

I'm reading currently "Not part of the package: A Year In Ibiza" by Paul Richardson, which was written in 1994 and has bits of pieces of ibiza's history as well as some talk about local culture, language, customs, etc, etc. there is quite a lot about hippies, alternative ibiza, eco warrior type island residents, etc, etc

i'm undecided on it at the moment, so i'll reserve judgement until i've finished.

has anyone else read it??

I remember on my first ever day as a spotlighter somebody was talking (typing ok) about a book on Ibizan residential architecture - anyone know a decent one????

I positively cream over some of the villas & when I grow up and get a proper job I quite fancy designing and building them.

Once in a lifetime.

Read all other clubbing books and this is my favourite.

how about some books by Colin butts, Is harry still on the boat?, Is harry still on the boat yet? and finally ' a bus could run you over',,,all rather light hearted reads about reps in ibiza:lol:

ibiza reads

Not Part of the Package got me to the island and got me writing about it.

Such a well-written book, by a guy who did some time here, lived in Ibiza off-season, learnt lingo and had a passion for the island. Wrote about club scene, package tourist scene when people weren't. Later he returned to live in San Vicente for 5 years.

Have no time for White Isle at all, despite selling them a few pics. Terrible factual errors, mash-ups between Spanish and Catalan, far far too many mistakes. Very lazy. Most of content was nicked from Emily Kaufman, Paul Richardson and me.

Only just started on Altered State as I needed to finish my previous one but so far not too impressed...

On an offtopic, and only coz I've just seen the advert but if anyone wants a decent book, read Atonement by Ian McEwan, BRILLIANT. Havn't seen the film yet but that will change this weekend.
