Just realised I have written over 1200 words and this is only the first day! Will finish the review if there is any interest..........
Hi there, this was my seventh trip to Ibiza and arguably my finest to date. I literally got back three weeks ago and am still buzzing with the memories.
I have enjoyed reading many of the club reviews on this forum and thought I should share my experiences, so hope you enjoy.
I had been studying all summer to become a qualified accountant so been really looking forward to blowing off a little steam! Coupled with the fact that I would be meeting up with some old pals from northern Ireland whom I hadn’t seen in months was adding to the anticipation.
I now live in London and as cool as the nightlife is, there’s just nothing like Ibiza I can feel the electricity from the moment I set foot on the island.
Day 1
I meet up with my friend J at Gatwick at around 8PM on the Friday night. I had just finished my last exam on the Wednesday but had curtailed my excitement and had two early nights before today. The plan was to go straight out off the flight and what better way to do this than to witness a very special set of Carl Cox B2B Marco Carola.
Anyway we had a BA flight booked as we knew we could do with a few drinks on the way over to get us in the mood. The check in was pain free and we got 2 seats beside each other.
No other option for 2 Irish lads then to hit the bar for a few pints and with the Supercup on the box a double result. After a couple of pints we headed to the duty free to grab a bottle of gin (I have got to Ibiza late on before and struggled to get alcohol after midnight), then jumped on the plane.
Not to sound snobby but for the sake of an extra 20 quid I don’t know why I haven’t flown BA more often the service was great, the provided us with a spot of food (chicken and bacon wraps) and most importantly for a big night the drinks kept flowing. I must have had 4 G&T’s and 2 small Heinekens plus another chicken and bacon wrap without the steward battering an eyelid.
The flight surprisingly for a Friday night was mostly families, but the flight team must have knew our game as on departure I was handed a small plastic bag full of gin and vodka mini’s, cheers guys!
We breezed through passport control and with only hand luggage jumped into a taxi to what would be our new home for the next few nights, Lido Apartments in Figueretas.
Having stayed in San An, PdB and Santa Eulalia in previous trips I must say that Figuretas is by far my favourite spot it seems to have the best combination of being chilled with good food and a beach during the day but still not being miles from the action.
Luckily our other mate T had arrived earlier in the day and so we were all checked in and mixers etc. had been bought. We sat for around an hour on the balcony catching up and having a few drinks.
I had pre bought three tickets on Spotlight and from reading the review knew Music On likely to close at 9AM. We were therefore in no rush to get there before 4AM as this is when the night was likely to kick off.
Around 3.30 we started to make a move, luckily we caught a cab straight away and were inside the club by 4, with little hassle this is despite the large queue outside for door tickets.
This was my fifth trip to Amnesia, I had previously been to cocoon on all the previous occasions and three of those occasions was after doing We Love and CircoLoco before hand. So I have never really been able to experience it with a clear head.
We had arrived at just the right time. Coxy was playing some great banging techno with that little bit of groove he is so famous for. This was great as I was worried that he may go more minimal to suit Carola’s style but if anything Carola was going more toward Coxy’s style. We got straight up to the front and the atmosphere was great good mix of Brits and Italians all in the name of Techno.
We decide we needed some drinks so decided that we should get some beers. 33 EUR for 3 Estrella bottles. Pretty steep but not the end of the world. We had 3 rounds of those over the next hour or so and then the inevitable piss was required!
It was only at this point that it became apparent to me just how rammed the club was. We walked over to the terrace toilets but there was no point as the queue was massive. We decided this was a good opportunity to have a walk around the main room and use the gents in the back left.
The music was pretty good in there too however it was the main act we wanted to see so headed swiftly back to our position at the front of the terrace (swiftly is probably not a good adjective here as this whole process probably took 30 mins!).
Anyway by this point another drink was in order, so I headed to the bar and order 3 vodka redbulls, f*** me sideways, this was 69 EURS!!!. I could barely believe it but anyways I wanted the drinks to ease the pain of that some kind chap offered me the end of his spicy cigarette which I duly obliged. By the time I got back to the dance floor with the drinks I had forgotten all about the extortionate prices.
Any way after laughing off the drinks prices we started to get in the groove again, music was still bloody good! It must have been around 6.30 that the three of us were beginning to get a little tired, I had been awake for almost 24 hours! No one fancied paying for more vodka redbulls, so the hunt started for something a little stronger. There was success and within 45 mins we were all back on top form and danced right through till 8.30.
It was at this point I remembered leaving cocoon at closing time a number of years ago and queuing for 2 hours in the baking sun for a taxi. With a little disappointment we swiftly left to grab a taxi before the rush. We were back at the apartment just before 9.
We were all still loving life so thought it would be a good opportunity to head down to the beach with a few beers to watch the sunrise.
This was a pretty special moment, only spoiled by the fact we realised that a man was getting noshed off by a pro, around 20 metres down the beach from us. The break of day suddenly made the pair aware that they were now being watched and they made a swift effort.
We found this pretty funny and we still had a few beers so sat there till around 10am before deciding to take a swift dip in the sea and head for bed!
