Hello all,
I got back from my 7th trip to Ibiza on Saturday and thought i would share with you my holiday.
Saturday 5th
Arrived at the airport at 4am ready for our 6am flight. Everything went smoothly and the flight was on time. Arrived into Ibiza around 10am and it was already blue skies and scorching! Just what the doctor ordered! We got our bus transfer to Jet Apartments which we oddly shared with Josh from Hollyoaks who was on his first trip to Ibiza and was full of questions!
Got lucky at the apartments also, when checking in everyone in front of us were being told their rooms wouldn't be ready until 1.30pm so they had a nice three hour wait, but when our turn came they just handed over the keys!
Was very surprised about the room upon entering, spacious, clean, huge balcony over looking the main pool and great aircon. Considering we paid £375 for two weeks including flights i was chuffed to bits with the room.
Decided to get changed and go for some breakfast at Passion down the road. Got to say i still thing they do the best English breakfast in Playa D'en Bossa, its beautiful. Everything was perfectly cooked, the hash brown was home made and the beans came in a bowl which gives you the opportunity to put them wherever you want on the plate!
They also do the best smoothies ever! A breakfast and smoothie to the good we headed to the pool.
It was about 1pm now and the first day excitement was too much to bear, foolishly we decided to buy a beer. I knew it was a bit early but hey, first day!
We drank a few beers and then went to Bora Bora when it started getting lively at 4.30pm.
Stayed in there for quite a few hours drinking glass tankards of San Miguel! 6 Euro a pop but they are so cold and crisp its impossible to resist!
Thought it still had a great atmosphere and they were playing some brilliant tunes, old and new. To mention a few, new remix of Delerium - Silence, Robyn S - Show Me Love (angello mix??), Deux - Sun Rising Up, Steve Angello - Be.
Prob had one too many beers and headed back to the room with the intention of getting a little kip then heading out for a meal and some chilled drinks (were saving ourselves for WLS).
Dosed off around 8pm and when i woke it was still light, turned out to be 10am Sunday. Oops.
Sunday 6th
Ill try to keep it more brief. Went for breakfast at Passion again. Put some good hours of sunbathing in (burning nicely in the process) and headed to Bora Bora about 5pm.
Spent a short while here before heading to Space at 6.30pm. I really wanted to see Jonathan Ulyssess on the terrace at 19.00pm. Got in there to find the sunset terrace perfectly busy, i could easily dance with my arms out at my side and not touch a soul! Music was fantastic as ever from Jonathan (played Orbital - Chime and new remix of Cafe Del Mar) and he even did a party piece when someone handed him a plastic rat they had on a leash! He ducked behind the dj booth and pretended the rat was djing, got a nice video on my phone.
Wasnt sure what the pass out rules were this year so i was delighted when i asked the doorman and he informed me we could take the pass out at anytime (not before 8pm like previous years) and come back at anytime also! Not bad for 40 Euro considering i got a free 13 Euro drink as well! Certainly beats paying £15 to get into Sankeys or £20 to get into the Warehouse Project!
Stayed in Space till about 9pm then headed out for drinks in the apartment.
Went back to Space around 11.30pm and caught the last half hour of Deepgroove. Saw Lawler in the terrace for a while then went back to the discoteca to see Claude Von Stroke and Felix Da Housecat. The night was fantastic and Felix looked like the coolest dude ever just bopping his head with his huge neck bling! Quite funny.
My only gripe about Space is the security (this will be more evident later). They are everywhere and are constantly walking around the dancefloors etc. And the silly women who push that trolley round collecting empty bottles, they insist on going through the middle of the dance floor all night!!
Monday 7th
Forgot to mention there were six of us on this holiday, and my mate from Sunderland joined us on the Sunday. He was staying in San An though so we decided to go over there on the Monday.
We spent the day sunbathing and larking around before going for a nice meal in Coastline. Food was great, i had Chicken Fajitas.
We bumped into someone i met last year who was back working out here again so we decided to be nice and bought our Cocoon tickets from him for 45 Euro.
Got taxis to Cocoon as the bus queue was ridiculous and we were there in 10 mins. Got there quite early because i knew Richie Hawtin would be on in the main room from about 12-3.
Need to point out that i have never made it to Cocoon in Ibiza before, the perils of getting too wasted in DC10, spending a fortune and not wanting to leave have always prevented me from going in the past.
What i will say is although i was very sad at DC10 being closed, i'm actually glad it was now because it opened the door to Cocoon.
What a night, i will easily say it was the best night i have ever had in Ibiza in 7 years. The line up was amazing, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano even turned up despite not being on the original billing. Can only assume it was because of DC10 being closed. Cant fault any of the DJ's at all and the place wasn't as rammed as Cream which was a very pleasant surprise. Had ample room on both dancefloors.
Best part of the night has to be Villalobos set. The man is a genius. It was the best set i have ever heard. When Sis - Trompeto was dropped it was amazing (i didnt know the name of it then, never heard it before - instant hit). He also played Age of Love which was surreal.
Loved the new Terrace, think its a vast improvement on the old one and its now far better than the main room (i always thought it was anyway but now its not even a contest). And has anyone else noticed the Megatron goes off a lot more in the terrace than the main room??
Stayed until the sun shone through the room which is an awesome sight! Headed back around 7am (all this commotion about 6am finishes is a load of rubbish, not one club in my entire two weeks wasn't still going after half 6) and went for a stroll on the beach.
Lay on the beach chatting rubbish for a few hours and then got some sleep!
Brilliant night. Recommend that everyone goes!
Tuesday 8th
Larked around in the day in the sun, late start due to last night being a bit messy, probably got up around 3pm i think.
Plan was for Carl Cox @ Space tonight. Decided we would go at 11 to make use of the 20Euro entrance.
Got there around 11 and Carl Cox was just starting his sunset terrace set. Thoroughly enjoyed it especially the weird remix of AVH - You Dont Know Me.
Went into the discoteca at midnight and was treated to Green Velvet. I didn't expect much from him but my god it was absolutely banging! It was so loud and relentless!!
Thought his set was great and when he talked into his headphones it sounded fantastic. Highlight must of been when he did La La Land live!
Carl Cox came on at 3am and for the first time ever, i wasnt impressed by him. I thought Green Velvet did such a good job it was hard for anyone to follow them, it felt like it came down a gear when it should of gone up one!
Never the less, still enjoyed it. The start of our holiday fiasco happened here though, my friend said to us on the dancefloor that he was going to go and buy a little fella of someone and disappeared.
We all got split up and ended going home seperately at different times.
Wednesday 9th
Woke up to discover my friend hadnt come back last night, tried not to worry as i know he was talking to some guys he knew and said he may go back to their apartment afterwards.
Got up and headed to the pool. Plan for today was to chill out and head into San An later for drinks.
Got to about 5pm and still no sign of my mate, decided to nip round to the police station on the corner and ask if he was brought in or admitted to hospital or something like that.
Police weren't much help (not surprising really as there was a language barrier). Basically got as far as we cant report him missing as it hasnt been 24 hours.
So decided to head to San An and not worry (2 stayed in the apartments in case he turned up).
About 11.30pm sat in Savannahs and my phone rings, its my mate. He was arrested but needs to show his passport which is in the safe. Stupidly i have the key so have to scramble back to Playa D'en Bossa to open it!
The police take his passport away and tell him whilst he is out here he must go to the court on 16th and 2nd of every month to sign on and off they go.
Here is what happended :
My mate (to paint a picture, very soft natured easy going guy, nicest guy you'll ever meet probably and wouldn't harm a fly) said he had gone to the back of the main room in space where people always ask if you stuff. A guy asked him and he said that he would like a little fella. the guy gets it out of his pocket and my mate gets the money out of his, before he has a chance to do the deal they are both pounced upon by two bouncers in plain clothes. They are taken to a private room, each in a seperate one and told to strip. There were two guys and a women who made my friend strip naked in front of them. Obviously they found nothing because he never actually bought the goods. At this point they ask him for ID, he doesnt have any on him as his passport is in the safe. They insist he must take them to the safe and show them his passport. So they lead him outside (clothed) and tell him to get into a car, which is an old dusty Fiat. At this point my mate is starting to panick thinking why are bouncers in plain clothes trying to take me to the safe where all mine and my friends money and passports are. He (as many others would) think these are just people trying to rip him off so he makes a run for it (he isnt being held or anything at this point).
They two guys catch him and pounce on him. My friend is shouting help and only at this point do they pull out there police ID.
He is taken to the cells for the night and then charged with resisting arrest!!
So here is a word of warning, be very careful in space, people saying the reason they never get shut down is political. Well i think this case throws that argument out of the window, they dont get shut down because they co-operate with the police unlike the other clubs and they have lots of security.
Be careful.
There is a whole story about the trouble my friend has about getting his passport back etc, the useless drunk lawyer who does fook all for three days (wasting time) and the people who do actually help. A decent lawyer he paid 500 euro to defend him and the lovely June, an interpreter who helped him out so much and only charged him 25 euros per day for her services. But ill tell all when i get to that.
For now i'm going to leave it there as my hands are in agony from typing.
Fair play to my mate also, who didnt get down about it too much with encouragement from us helping and still managed to go to Cream, Wonderland, Cocoon and Meganight!
Ill continue this review at the weekend.
