Hello guys!
This holiday review is dedicated to all those people, who love Ibiza not just because of the clubs. My girlfriend and I have spent our third holiday at our favourite island this year. Although we aren’t even mid-twenties we love Ibiza not just because of the clubs and the music (which we certainly enjoy too). We love Ibiza more because of its beautiful sunsets, the gorgeous chill-outs, the wonderful beaches, the great landscape, the lovely atmosphere and the friendly people. We love … Sundays at Cala Benirras, Sa Trinxa, Salinas, Atlantis, Es Vedra & Torre de Pirata, the area around Portinatx, Kumharas, Dalt Villa, Cala Yoga, Cala Gracionetta, Bar Costa etc. and we also love Formentera.

Monday, 4th – arrival:
Arriving again at “our” Hotel Cenit the late afternoon :D . Although it has just two stars, we can’t imagine a better hotel in Ibiza. Sitting on the balcony or the pool and looking down to the Playa d’en Bossa coast line at daytime and at night, watching the planes starting and landing: just great! And the lots of gays around in the hotel are much more to appreciate than some of those westend guys in San Antonio!
The first day: Just relaxing at the pool, drinking Sangria, enjoying the sun and meeting some friends in the evening. Everything perfect! We already felt at home after a few minutes …

Tuesday, 5th – Around San Antonio (from Cala Salada to Kumharas):
Getting up early in the morning and going to Cala Salada by bus and taxi to be the first ones at the beach! From there we planed to walk back to San Antonio passing Cala Yoga, Cap Negret and Cala Gracio. There was a hiking trail drawn down on my map, but we never found a way! With flip flops this day trip was a massive effort, as we also didn’t know this area yet! But I wanted to find Cala Yoga at any circumstances, because I’ve read such a lot positive comments on this forum. And we found it! The scenery of this natural place is really stunning and then this little Buddha statue 8) … But we can’t imagine Cala Yoga (Punta Galera) being a place for meditation. There was even a school class or something, that made a lot of noise …
Some hours later, after enjoying the breathtaking view from Cap Negret, we arrived at Cala Gracio, but we loved Cala Gracionetta much more, which has become one of our favourite Ibiza-Calas now! So cute, not even 20 meters broad and a cool Chiringuito. Loved this place! :D Passing the sunset strip we reached San Antonio at 5 pm and we were dead to no exaggeration! Maybe that’s why we didn’t enjoy the sunset at Kumharas as much as last year. But this might also be because I was wrong with the sunset time. Sitting there for nearly 3 hours might be a bit too long …

Wednesday, 6th – East Coast:
We didn’t expect too much from the Punta Arabi Hippie Market, but it was even worse! No possibilities to move because of the crowd  , and for me it’s not more than the summing up of all the markets around at the island. Another problem this day was the weather as it was probably the hottest day of Ibiza 05. Leaving the hippie market after two hours and going to Playa Es Figueral by taxi: The second mistake of the day, because of all the sea grass around there :( . Stopping at Anita’s Bar in San Carlos on our way to Santa Eulalia and having a snack. Up to the church and down to the harbour at Santa Eulalia, having a strange but great dinner at Rincon de Pepe after waiting nearly half an hour of being even recognized there. Not our best day …

Thursday, 7th – To the Sans and Santas:
Time for our rental car! After having lots of troubles with Hertz last year  , everything went well with holiday autos (centauro) this year :D . The highlight of the day was Bar Costa at Santa Gertrudis. The great bocadillos and the impressive picture gallery made as having a great time there. Going on the Santa Ines and the viewpoint of Ses Balandres then, which we also enjoyed very much. Our next stops: San Mateo, San Lorenc de Balafia – most of these “cities” are not having more than the church – and finally San Miguel, where we experienced the traditional folklore festival. What a cultural shock going to Pacha (Deep Dish) in the evening …

Friday, 8th – South-West-Coast:
Our first stop of the day: Sa Caleta, a beautiful beach and the “trenches” are also quite interesting. Going on the Cala Yondal then, but we didn’t like this place. And the streets there: What a horror! I just prayed: Please let there come no car towards us … Stopping again in San Jose at the Bernat Vinya Bar, having a snack and “enjoying” the brutal coastal line from here on, especially from Cala Tarida to Cala Vadella. But there are great views all around, Cala Tarida also looks great. We have a beach stop at Cala Vadella moving on the Es Vedra and Torre de Pirata in the early evening, watching the sunset there. What could be more romantic?

Saturday, 9th – Portinatx:
Driving up to Portinatx, taking a look at San Juan and going back to Cala Xarraca by bus in order to walk the way to Portinatx again. Yeah, we’re a bit crazy … The beaches and the landscape in the north is so beautiful. Cala Xarraca, which we already know from last year, even more S’Illot de Rencli – a great area for diving and snorkelling I guess – Cala Xuclar as well as the Portinatx beaches. Having still time, we decided to walk up the further northern area around the lighthouse of Portinatx. It looks a bit like Atlantis there, with great scenery and natural “beaches”. A big positive surprise for us and we enjoyed some of our best Ibiza 05 hours there :D .
As we didn’t get a table in the Balafia restaurant in San Lorenc later on we ate at Juanitos and moved on the San Jose then, enjoying some live blues at Raco Verd.

Sunday, 10th – San Miguel, Cala Benirras:
What an awful weather! And our day trip didn’t start too good either. I didn’t expect the foot path to Torre de Mular that long. My girlfriend wanted to kill me  … And the view from the closed(!) Torre wasn’t that fantastic, maybe because of cloudy skies. As there were too much people for us at the San Miguel beach (it’s a beautiful beach though, with a great landscape and the fantastic view to the big villa), we moved on to the close Calo des Multons, where it even started to rain! The visit of the Cova de Can Marca was the worst 12 euros we spent in our life. Such a tourist flop!
But then the rescue and one of the highlights of Ibiza 05: Cala Benirras and the bongo festival :P :P :P . At about 7 pm the clouds suddenly disappeared and a few minutes later we heard the first bongos. If anybody could tell me how to put photos in this forum, I would show you the photos of the best sunset, we have ever seen. Together with this unforgettable bongo-atmosphere. We are still dreaming about these beautiful moments …

Monday, 11th – Salinas:
Unfortunately we had to return our rental car that day. There’s one thing for sure: The next holiday we will take a car for the whole time. You can see so much and get around at the island so quickly in just one single day.
But even without our car we enjoyed a great day at Salinas. Lying behind in the trees first - as we did last year – relaxing, and watching all the beautiful people, the yachts and the clear water. Moving on to Sa Trinxa then and rocking there 8) ! I enjoy this clubbing atmosphere much more in daytime than at night and we had an unforgettable time. From there we started our massive walk to Playa d’en Bossa (!), passing some lovely tiny “bays”, Torre … (don’t know the name) and Es Cavallet. The walk from there through the mountains to Playa d’en Bossa looked so short from the Cenit balcony. Finally, we walked nearly three hours. Standing at the last of the hills and looking down to the Playa d’en Bossa lights at 11pm! We didn’t see anything and didn’t know how we should get down from this damn hill. We were very, very happy being at Club Med half an hour later, ordering a taxi to bring us back to our hotel and into our beds. For sure another unforgettable memory …

Tuesday, 12th – Formentera:
A much more relaxing day: Going to Formentera by the ferry (already a highlight for me), renting a bike and driving to Illetes beach, the favourite beach of my girlfriend. There’s no place in Ibiza where the water is so clear and you feel a bit like in the Caribbean. There was another highlight in Formentera last year, which we had to do again this year: the Blue Bar 8) . It’s just so relaxing. If you can’t relax here, you can’t relax anywhere. The same is true for Ibiza.

Wednesday, 13th – Ibiza town, Salinas:
We love Dalt Villa. And during daytime it’s not worse than at night! We enjoyed some great views from there as well as those lovely, tiny streets.
Going to Salinas again in the afternoon after enjoying it that much on Monday and then back to Ibiza town in the evening, doing a bit of shopping – CDs and clothes.

Thursday, 14th – last day:
Just relaxing on the pool the last day. I had to fight against tears when looking at the sea and the Playa d’en Bossa coast line while listening to this marvellous 25th anniversary Café del Mar CD (especially CD 3) and remembering our unforgettable 10 days of Ibiza 05 :( . The same appeared to my girlfriend: Sitting in the plane back to Vienna, teardrops were running down hear face, when listening to this melodic third CD. I don’t think that I have to explain how wonderful these 10 days must have been for us …

and as you mentioned the traditional folklore (ball pagès), apart from every thursday in san miguel (6.15pm in front of the church) you can also enjoy it every friday in dalt vila (9pm in the claustro of the town hall), some saturdays in san josé (afternoon in front of the church), etc..........

excellent review!! :D

i don't envy you doing all that walking! can bernat vinya is one of my watering holes - a great place for coffee and magdalenas, bocadillos de tortilla francesa, red wine and beer.

This is really useful thanks.

While I will be clubbing, I hate sitting on the beach, and this time round want to see as much of the island as possible.

Renting a car sounds good if i can find anywhere who does renting for under 25 year olds

great review!!!!!!!!!!! thank you! know most of the places and have visited many of them also this year. watch out for my soon-coming review...

how lovely :P :P looking forward to doing some non-clubbing stuff next year, and that journal certainly provided good promotion for that 8) !!

Fantastic review8)
Given me even more ideas for next year, hopefully I'll be bringing my Girlfriend, I'm looking forward to seeing the reactions to so many things from her, an ibiza virgin:D

Can't understand how you keep missing us! - one of my favourite places early evening and yet we are never in your photos!

It's Anitas in San Carlos - you can either sit inside and be sensible or outside as I always do and cook in the sun whilst watching the fun of coaches going around that corner on the right, but keep your toes in or you will lose them!
