In the end after waiting for the coats I couldn't face going through more queing to get into the cross followed by more queing for the cloakroom so I got the tube to Paddington and got the 8.30 train back to Bristol. I was home and in Bed by 10.308)

I know the size of the queue for the cross was unbaleavable!.

Hook 'em Horns

you talking about American Football again... ;)

My New Year ROCKED!! Anjali and I went to Las Vegas. We saw PvD on the 30th, and might I say he spun HARD dance but that was just perfect for the evening. Super high energy and the place was going wild.

The next night for NYE we watched fireworks at midnight going off atop the hotels. What a show!! Then we ended up going to the Club Rubber afterparty, and got a laugh out of everyone gnawing their faces off 8O Here's a cute shot of Anjali and I on NYE (mind you, it was 4:30AM and about eight bottles of champagne later, so we look a little on the tore-up side hahaha!!...well I do, she doesn't... beeyotch always looks beautiful.)

Ferd:

That was just not another game of American Football. I can assure you that whether you are or are not a fan of American Football you would have enjoyed the game. I am personally not into American Football, but I do watch my university's team, Texas Longhorns, play.

For the entire season this game was forecasted. When it was finally announced that we were going to play USC (University of Southern CA) Trojans for the national championship, a month before the game, all the media could do was to talk about how great the USC team was and that it was very likely for Texas to get whopped by USC.

The way the media was talking down the LONGHORNS, I took it as a personal insult. Many TX Exes felt the same. I, like many TX Exes, took it as a slap on the face when one of the key player from USC was awarded the Heisman trophy by a very wide margin over the TX Quarterback, Vince Young (who by the way single-handedly won the game for TX). BTW, the Heisman trophy is awarded to the best player in the entire tournament.

USC is a great team, there is no absolutely doubt about that, but the way the media portrayed TX it was as if the 12 teams that we beat to reach the national title just handed us victories on a silver platter. It was humiliating for us; to say the least.

I refrained really hard from saying anything for a month, as I think that actions speak louder than words, and on Wednesday we proved just that. It was not just a football game, it was a clash between an elitist and media favorite USC vs. the common yet proud men of TX. It was the determination of one man brought up in the slums of Houston (Vince Young) that elevated an entire team, heck an entire state to glory. It was like Alexander's victory against Darius. If you ever followed cricket, it was better than Allan Border leading the Aussies to the world championship trophy in 1987.

Records are meant to be broken. But this one will stand for a long time.

Sorry for my long response, but I tend to become very passionate when it comes to my school and my home state of Texas.

Beautifully written Laguna. I showed up to an all-USC bar to watch the game :spank:

I know... well, my boss let me go early as he is from Texas, and it was the closest bar to work that was cool. I met a friend there, who unbeknownst to me was a die-hard USC fan as well!! Well I walked in with my Longhorns cap, with a burnt orange and white ensemble... you can imagine the response. I overheard one man say to his friend, "Damn, that woman's got BALLS."

Anyway, I can't remember a college football game being more exciting. Every play breathtaking. Props to USC for sure... but even the fans of the school were admitting to me that they could tell the Trojan's hearts just weren't in it. The Longhorns wanted it more, and they got it.

OK.. second attempt at writing this. I tried from my hotel in Amsterdam (free Wifi!) but it didn't save and I couldn't be bothered whilst still on vacation

Me and the missus had a very good New Years celebration. I tend to agree with those who say it's overrated but we had a solid couple days of partying this time around.

Dec 31 - We went to the pub to watch Chelsea beat Birmingham so the drinking began in earnest at 2pm. 8O Early evening we made our way back to the hotel to get ready for the evening. Then we popped over to a nearby pub for some more drinks before catching a taxi to club Panama for Deep Dish (Dubfire) and Redanko. Solid DJ sets all around (though the best was probably from the warm-up DJ whose name I never got) and we met some really fun people from Holland, Australia, etc as evidenced by lots of funny photos found on my camera the next day   We closed out the club the next morning and went back to the hotel for a bit of rest, deciding to skip the afterparty action.

Jan 1 - We got up and went for "a walk" which basically entailed spending the afternoon at 3 different pubs along the way. One of them was having a New Years Day party with DJ and free glass of champagne upon arrival, while another was handing out free snacks. Great hospitality in Amsterdam :D

Went out for dinner at the trendy Supper Club which is a 4-hour, 5-course dinner experience with the diners all seated on beds and two DJs playing some killer house music to keep things lively. Really nice evening. 8)

That night, we had planned to visit club Paradiso (1€ entry, 1€ beers!) but on the way we found out that there was a huge 45-minute line to get in so we went to Sugar Factory instead for an acid jazz/funk/house night. Took a while to adjust to the music policy (and the interspersed sets of live acid jazz accompaniment) but we perked up later on and danced until closing time before making our way home.

Really nice weekend.
