How to get money out - Ibiza?

Well basically my dad though it would be a good idea to give me this little card which is basically like a debit card. I'm putting £500 on there and baically I just put it into an ATM machine and get out anywhere between 60 to 100 euros for each night out, and then I leave the card somewhere safe in my hotel room.

I was wondering if this is just an 'unusual' thing to do (my dad always comes up with the most strange ideas that no one else would ever do) or if it is something most people would do?

Are you asking how to do it? You just put the card in a cash machine like normal. There are plenty dotted around although sometimes the ones in PDB are empty and not filled for a while.

Is this a wind up? Do you take cash out and then leave your card safe in your hotel room? I honestly can't see that this is a genuine question, is it your first time abroad without parents? If it is then yes of course that is fine, if you dont feel you can carry your card without losing it then put it in the room but I prefer to keep my card on me just in case I need it. :)

Take your money out then ask around for someone called a "looky looky" man who will mind your card while you're having fun in the clubs...

just check there is no charge each time used.if yes best to draw 300 euro;s limit a day out.if there is a charge you you keep getting oddments out.it will mount up

We took cash and kept it in our room safe. Had no problems.

I also used my visa debit card to withdraw 130 euros and used it twice for a shop purchase.

Instead of putting all of your eggs in one basket take some cash and the top up card and hire a safe for a week.

It sounds like your Dad wants to give you a prepaid card loaded with £500 which you can use to withdraw money at an ATM as you need it.

Yes, this is a very sensible idea - especially if you are staying in a shared room or somewhere without a safe. Usually there is no transaction charge for withdrawing Euros from the card and it acts like a cash store so as long as you don't lose the PIN number, the balance is safe if the card is lost. You can withdraw money for the day and leave the card in your room if you go out drinking to help make sure you've enough left to live on the next day.

You can also use the card to pay for meals etc. just like a debit or credit card in most cases and often you get a text if the balance runs low and you've lost track of how much you've spent or withdrawn (it happens :!:).

Particularly useful if you have a fixed budget or want to take a card out but not risk carrying around your credit or debit card linked to an account with higher balances, which can stay there for emergencies.

Everytime you withdraw money you get charged a couple of quid so don't withdraw 60 euros a day. Also take your debit card as an emergency in case you lose Euro card/get robbed by a prostitute :D
