Can anyone out there let me know what Ibiza is like in early May, I am planning on going there from Barcelona from around May 5-9th. Specifically I was wondering:
1) How are the beaches, is it warm and sunny enough to sun-tan? Is the water warm enough to swim in?
2) How is the social life? I am less interested in huge rave seen, but would like a decent mix of people and spots to visit. Is it completely dead? Are there any outdoor-style/beach parties.
3) I hear Ibiza is pretty expensive, would it be cheaper during this time period than peak season.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I went to Ibiza 5th May last season and it cant be that bad as im going again 15th may for 2 weeks.
The beaches are fine, its prob one of the best times to go as you dont need to fight for a place on the beach. Im sure you will tan quite easily but there may be a few days when its cloudy.
8) The clubs arent really open until later on in the season, but if your into bars then you will be fine.
As to ibiza being expensive i dont really agree unless you go to the clubs then your talking mega money.
What part are you going too??

wrong: Pacha is open every day in May

There's something amazingly fresh about the pre season. :) [/quote]

Hee Hee im good aint i, i should of said i dont really leave San An other than going to the airport.
I will give up on trying to give advise and leave it to you pro's!

worth it?

I'm hitting a few spots in Europe the last two weeks of May. Is it worth a short trip to Ibiza at this time?

I'm not usually a clubber, but am looking to party my ass off for those two weeks. Am I wasting $ making a trip to Ibiza for two nights? Do you think the party scene is worth the expense??? Or should I stick to London, Amsterdam... any other suggestions????

timegypsy,

I was in Ibiza for the last weekend in May of 2000 and I had a great time.
Believe me, Ibiza is worth a short trip.

Pacha is happening and this year Space moved there opening party to May 30th!

In 2001, It took me about 15 hours to get from Miami to Ibiza, for 5 days and it was worth it. :D

Well, this all sounds promising. I will likely be in Ibiza city unless other people have any better ideas on where to stay. I would like some place near the beach but also near restaurants and bars etc for easy access. Anyone have any recommendations on nice, clean and reasonable places to stay.

Thanks again all. Also if anyone is going to be around during that time and wants to hang out let me know.

the island is never completly dead,...pacha every weekend the whole year,...and many other interesting things in art an culture,...IMO the cooler people are in the low season,...and yes its very expensive!! the whole year....

Trying to revive my post from earlier...

So I am thinking of booking at Es Vive, from what I've read it has the kind of vibe I want, youngish, music-friendly crowd. Does anyone have any other places I should hit while I'm out there from may 5-8. So far I've only heard Pacha being up and running, do I have to lug my butt out to San An? Any open-air beach parties going on to kick off the pre-season. Thanks in advance for your help, I'm looking forward to meeting some interesting and lively people (from what I've read on the boards).

I don't think the water will be warm in early May. But if you like cool water you won't have any problem ;)

I think the water is in general even warmer in fall after the hot summer than in spring. I mean if I'm not wrong the water temps in November are warmer than in early May despite May is warmer.
