I can blame the use of English on your people. Remember back when the English kicked the Puritans off England, the English-speaking Puritans had to go somewhere. They choose North America. They carried on that language instead of making another language because they were too busy eradicating the indiginous people and trying not to get eradicated by bears. Later on, the Puritans were too busy fighting the English, fighting the English again, fighting betwixt themselves, fighting the Spanish, fighting Everybody- twice- fighting the Koreans and the Vietnamese (Great job there!) fighting Panama, Grenada and most recently liberating Iraq from her oil and too busy becoming the most powerful economic, social and military powerhouse in the world to make another language- so we just modified English. And yes, I realize that the previous sentence was a run-on. In Americanish, those are perfectly a-o-k. In Americanish, We took out "u"'s in places like harbour, colour and labour and spelled centre the way it should of been spelled in the first place.

Anyway, as you can see, we were just too busy to make a new language. ;)

I'm going to ignore young Dual_Life's explanation and offer up my own response to this point, Stuie. It's a topic that I've found especially interesting lately.

My job involves reading and viewing lots of media and I have to say that, as English goes, the British version is in some sort of slang-drenched horrific downward spiral. American English, at least in the press, is nowadays much closer to the level of linguistic adherance that one would expect from old England than what one finds on the British Isles themselves these days.

That is, of course, aside from the differences in spelling.

:D having been to new york(where i heard very few english speakers!),are you seriously trying to tell me that american spoken english is more superior to the british version??..lollll morbyd we invented english 8O in fact....we invented everything of use to man!. ;) harbor!

Well Maurice if your spoken English is anything to go by then it's definately going downhill!! ;)
