How does this work?

basically it doesn't matter what number you pick the answer is always the same. try it by picking two different numbers
 
I tried 3 different numbers and got three different symbols as the answers.... and the thing got it right 8O

no no no no

pick for example, 99, 98 and 97. the formula for all three gives the answer of 81
 
there are only a few answers that are possible with this, and each time you reload the page those numbers that you can get are all given the same symbol, which is the one that appears in the centre
 
Ah, you're right.

The only answers you can get are 81, 72, 63, 54, 45, 36, 27, 18 and 9. They all have the same symbol.

The way they get you is by changing the symbol every time you "try again", so you think you've got different symbols showing up.

kinda like that card one that changes all the cards.
