How do you actually pronounce 'Ushuaia'?

Ha ha thanks, if you heard some of the different pronunciations I've been coming out with you would laugh your head off

Met a frined on Bora Bora and asked what they were doing that evening and he replied with

Oooooasha

How they got that from the spelling of it, is beyond me lol

Ha ha well that's exactly what I wanted to avoid lol - telling someone what I'm doing and say I'm going to Ushuaia and say it in a funny way and them just start laughing at me

Out of curiosity... Anyone actually been to Ushuaia?

I mean the city. Southernmost major city on the planet and all that.

I'm curious to go. I have a friend who has been a few times on his way to South Georgia and Antartica.

Nope - Barlioche & Puerto Montt far enough South for any sane soul :)

Furthest south I've been is Mar Del Plata

Or I guess Bloemfontein in S. Africa.

I'd love to go back to Argentina and make my way south though. Penguins!

Thanks for that,

the first part is kinda silent with emphasis on the 'uaia' so sort of 'oo-swhyya'

Cracks me up this thread - no-one ever worried when it was just a beach bar, but now it's gone all fancy no-one wants to look silly not knowing how to say it

when denoting excitement about a legend behind the decks at said establishment, I believe it is customary to go (using the above as a benchmark) oo-swyhyyyyah - in a "way-hey" sort of way ...
