How Busy is Ibiza this year

@corona69
You can't like the island very much if a small inconvenience like that sign stops you going...

Mate I love the island!!

I have been in Ibiza for twelve years running, I remeber mambo with it's beach and have had numerous days there with radio 1, I now find myself returing with my kids and enjoy sitting on the rocks with a corona and my family as the sun goes down. This has now potentially been taken away from me depending on the local police and there enforcement of this law

It just feel to me that everything has changed over the last few years in Ibiza and this year I will probably stay in my room at the siriens sea view and enjoy the sunset from my balcony where I can enjoy a beer without paying 10 euros for the privilege.

Sounds like a good idea (the balcony) the last time I went to the rocks at Mambo I couldn't hear the music, which is what I went for (a fave dj) all I heard was chatter, shrieking, and sadly the sound of breaking glass....

I took plastic

Those signs are there because of un civilised idiots that ruin it for others.

How hard is it to throw bottles in bins after you are done with them?

It's the lack of respect that some people have for the island that has brought on enforcements like that sign!!!

I'm no greeny or hippie but I certainly don't go around littering crap everywhere. Wouldn't do it in my home country and certainly wouldn't do it in a foreign country!

Ibiza 123 festival a stone throw from the mambo rocks..... think about it people it is no coincidence ;) Once that is done and dusted it will all blow away......
The site itself looks great, but as far as the money men go they wont allow civilised people to enjoy a sunset with their own beer while the 123 is going on. Despite the fact for 3 decades and more folk have drunk their own drinks on those rocks, Ibiza does not care for the people any more only the money we give them.

is it not half accurate to say that ibiza and promoter of ibiza are two separate people in MOST cases.

The government initiative with those signs in my opinion is about island preservation not about forcing tourists to give more money to the bars in that particular area.

I went for a stroll yesterday to see progress of 123 and on my way through the spiral hill i saw at least 2 plastic bags just floating in beautiful turquoise water below bottles scattered randomly on the path… WTF is wrong with people.

Sad and disgusting, you wonder what goes through people's heads when they just ditch bags of rubbish etc

Many of the veterans on the Island will tell you that it has changed. A harder more commercial element is more prevalent.

People are not happy. The season is shortening with just 2 good months july and august left to make yearly income in. June and September are not as strong as they use to be. A/I is seriously affecting the local bars and restaurants and many are finding it hard to compete.

Throw in a European recession in 2 of Ibiza main markets, Spain and Italy and it starts to get tighter.

there are always many places to go in Ibiza to escape all the commercialism so I would always feel the Real Ibiza is still there to be discovered.

I must admit I have stayed the last two years at the siriens sea view on a AI basis. Last year (with kid in tow) my only venture outside the hotel was once to savannah for a meal (90 euro for two adults and one kid) and a corona on the rocks for the sunset. I spent a total of 150 euros my entire holiday. Did not even venture to Ibiza town for a cocktail in the Dalt villa a previous tradition.

My previous holidays would have involved a few nights in the hotel abrat in san an and then a few nights in talamanca at the sinbad or the playa real before it got bought over, then a quick ferry and four nights in barca. Total spend in pubs/clubs and food would usually have been over £1500 for the ten nights easy.

The A/I market at the siriens has got my business for the foreseeable sunset views from your balcony a nice quite beach at Port Des torrent and I can' wait to see the water park.

I do hope the previous poster is correct on the no drinking signs on the sunset strip and the link to the 123 festival. As this is a major part of tourism and a major tourist pull on the island, if they destroy the sunset strip and take into the same VIP market the clubs have gone, Ibiza will find it's self in the decline I feel given the current euro crisis and cheaper alternatives out there.

I do feel there may be something more political going on thought, as last year mambo had to back down and remove there bouncers with there "ONLY DRINKS BOUGHT IN MAMBO CAN BE CONSUMED ON MAMBO BEACH SIGNS" after a Facebook campaign that pointed out mambo don't actually own the beach.

AI's will take more and more business from people like myself who have love the island and return but are looking for the same value we once had, and have a certain distain to the commercial element and increased cost that is now taking over the island.

That's my rant over

When you have kids the A/I option is so handy. The Sirenis would have a good quality level of A/I and with the new waterpark this year its now an excellent value option. There is a good beach restaurant Es Virot on Port De Torrent beach and nearby Es Cuco does a tasty rotisserie chicken. I usually go Half Board as I always like to try different places for lunch as Ibiza has so many fine restaurants plus its a great way to listen to all the gossip and news:) People love giving out in Ibiza!

I do know the Sunset Strip is trying to clean up its image as is the whole of San An which I feel is a good thing thats why these laws are there. Correct me if im wrong but I think they were always there just not enforced until now. There are still lots of areas to go to watch sunset with a beer in San Antonio. Cala Gracio is a much nicer area also all around the port de torrent and Cala De Bou is still hassle free to drink a beer on the rocks.

I hate litter especially of beautiful areas and I think this is a classic case of where the few have spoiled it for the majority.

Im a bit confused lately, as to whether Ibiza is in a quiet period , a boom period , or what?!
I remember figures posted on this site, saying last year more visitors arrived on the island than ever before
but it seems this year Im seeing posts like the above and others on the forums saying PdB is dead and theres more PRs than tourists! The latest figures for june posted recently showed a slight dip on this time last year didnt they (?) but I wouldnt have thought it was enough to give the impression of a "dead" island?
as for AI hotels, I personally would never stay in one on Ibiza. Even if it is only a few quid more per day, I think it encourages people just to stay in the hotel and not enjoy anything the island has to offer. Of course, I completely see parents point of view about using AI as its good value with kids. Ibiza is certainly more commercial, but staying in a AI and not using restaurants/local bars/shops etc doesnt offer a slap in the face of overt commercialism in my opinion, it simply is to the detriment of local businessess.

Official stats from the Airport and the tourism bodies say that there is not much change from last year maybe only 7-10% down. All depends on who you talk to on the Island some are doing well others are hurting. While the figures may be about the same tourists are definitely spending a lot less due to the Ibiza prices which are artificially inflated because of the shorter season.

One thing I have noticed is that the rich are getting richer and the poor and getting poorer. I saw people eating out of bins this year and they weren't down and outs either!

when you say shorter season Bez, I take it you mean simply people are just preferring to come in july and august even more than before , leaving june and september quieter? The clubbing season is slightly longer the last few years than say 5-6 years ago, isnt it, with a late may early oct season?
When I was over in late april several workers, residents, told me they were delighted at the numbers then. hope it picks up for the rest of the season

Yes what are known in the industry as the shoulder months. Not as busy as they used do be especially in the non clubbing market. The decline of the package tourists would also be affecting the hotels that rely on that trade.

I have noticed from Tripadvisor that the Hotels that rank highly there are doing well mainly because they have embraced and understand the social media market that brings the ever increasing independent bookings.

The Gran Sol in San Antonio is number 1 hotel on the Island with Tripadvisor because they work hard to look after their regular customers and use Tripadvisor ratings to attract business. Word of mouth is responsible for 70% of marketing so its important to be attracting good reviews thesedays.
