Just been called by my new housemates who've just moved into our new house which I'm moving into later.
It turns out the place hasn't been cleaned, there's food on the walls, broken mirror, plugs hanging out of sockets etc
And half the furniture that we saw when we looked around has been removed - double beds replaced with singles, curtains replaced with sheets, desks and chairs removed or completely broken
We're trying to get them to replace all the furniture and get the place professionally cleaned, or failing that reduce the rent to be a non-furnished house rate and get furniture ourselves.
We're also considering witholding rent until they do this - it sounds like the land lord doesn't give a **** and the estate agents are not the sharpest tools in the box.
What are our rights? Can we withold rent? We've paid a deposit of 6 weeks rent, and the first months has come out too so far.
