house music genres???

I get confused with all these different classifications of ‘house music’. Ive heard of all sorts of different terms like, deep house, funky house, hard house, techno, trance, chill, ambient, drum and bass, electronic etc etc. but never really understood what all of them actually mean and often hear peeps referring to certain types of music like chicane as deep house or chill or trance??

i love that word 'genres' so much classier than 'kind'

i actually heard it used on sunday at the tsunami benefit in san jose when the mc said 'we're now going to change genres form hip hop to rock'

always wondered who actually makes up these names and where they originate.....I mean....can anyone give a definition of Deep House!? fooked if I can

This ones got loads of definitions for everything associated with Djing.

This ones got specific definitions of most of the different genres, with examples of tunes that fit each one.

This site can get quite confusing but gives loads of history to house music.
