Hotels in Madrid

I'm going to Madrid next month for a long weekend.

I've never been before and wondered if anyone knew of some decent, not too expensive hotels in the centre that are handy for all the usual touristy things.

Plus any tips on good restaurants, tapas bars - and of course discotecas - would be gratefully received.

Muchas gracias por su ayuda.

I can't help on this one, I've always stay at a friends' or family's and actually the only touristy thing I did were the museums

There's a couple of regulars from Madrid that posts in the spanish forum, why don`t you ask there? They don't come too often nowadays but if they see your post they will be a good help

Fabrik is quite good club, minus point is that it is FAR away from the city centre. You have take train (or taxi) which takes about 30mins or so. But it is worth a visit, I've once been there and Erick Morillo played. It has also four or five huge ice-cannons, bigger than in Amnesia  Take a look: http://www.grupo-kapital.com/fabrik/

I'm going to Madrid at easter, and after a bit of research have booked a room at this place:

My Madrid friend says its very central, it looks great from the website and its cheeeeep because its not a 'proper' hotel with all the silly facilities like a gym in a cupboard and a breakfast room in a dingy basement

Or the 'petit palace' hotels look very nice too.

Alright, so we've got 2 nights in Madrid on our way back from Ibiza next month.

The Hotel Abalu mentioned above looks quite decent (the room photos remind me a lot of the Banys Oriental where we stayed in Barca).

Nevertheless, I like choice. Anyone else got any hotel ideas?

Abalu was booked the weekend I went. I ended up at the Lusso Infantas, which is just off Gran Via on the edge of Chueca and turned out to be a good choice. The rooms are comfortable enough and the hotel restaurant isn't bad either but the location is the best thing about it.

Ya, I checked and the Abalu is booked up when we'll be there as well. It's a very small hotel.

That's a shame. We had a great stay there - it's small but very nicely (design boutiquey) done, and lovely continental breakfasts in your room.

You could try the petit palace hotels - they are a bit more £££ but there are lots to choose from and they looked very good (from the outside at least:D )

Thanks for these ideas.

Any more hotel/restaurant suggestions anyone?

Went to Madrid last year and put on about a stone eating out every nite. Think the restaurant we liked best was La Viuda Blanca(sp). Good food and really nice cocktails - tis probably considered a tourist trap but was v nice.
