Theres an enormous complex in Nice called the Bay Of Angel's or whatever the french say for that, looks amazing. apparently every single apartment has a sea view. theres also a nice little campsite just along the coast in Antibes, cheap accomodation, lively bar/disco in summer months(ok i was only 14 at the time 
).
Its a great base for seeing the area though. Train station right outside will take you to Monaco, ventimiglia in Italy (which has a great market), a great beach at Villefranche Sur Mer, and if you can be arsed, yo can get off at Eze and walk up to Eze Village, which is perched on a cliff. Very picturesque. Even a quick jaunt through to Juan Les Pins or Cannes is nice, and theres always trips to St Tropez for much cheapness (booze included). Nice itself is also pretty cool, loads of great shops and friendly people. If you get a car, the surrounding hills are great to explore. I was lucky enough to have one of the local experts (she's written books!) as my guide. I could email her and ask her for a recomendation if you want mate?

That would be great, basically need a nice hotel in Nice for 2-3 days before we start a island hopping holiday thru the Med.
