the best one on the whole island is the hippy market on the outskirts of es cana. its very large and sells a wide vairity of things you can get the local buses to es cana but i think you have to change at santa eulalia

i prefer the hyppy market near san carlos there are fewer people than in es cana !!! Es cana is too big!

Hippy markets

Thanx guys ill defo be sure to visit at least one of the markets...what a helpful bunch you all are...he he

:D :D :D

i went to a few of them... NOT CHEAP and full of cheaply made crap. not worth the taxi ride imo. even the girl i was with didnt find them that exciting.

"Hippy markets" all over the island on different days from Playa d'en Bossa to Portinatx but the two main ones are still Es Cana on a Wednesday or Las Dahlias(my personal preference) in San Carlos on a Saturday. In addition, similar goods are on sale all day every day in Santa Eularia "Ramblas" and every night in the streets off the harbour area of Eivissa - you pays your money and takes your chance - basically the same as anywhere in the world, you get what you pay for :? .

Sorry im a newbie, could you explain what a hippy market is?

Ricardo Urgell today presents the mayor of Vila a sculpture dedicated to the 'hippies'

Ibiza has today with a monument to the hippies. The owner of Pasha, Ricardo Urgell, will tonight present the mayor of Vila, Rafa Ruiz, a sculpture tribute to this counterculture movement that gave Ibiza its mythical aura and became mecca of freedom and creativity to people from all the world.

The sculpture by the artist Ció Abellí, is based on an iconic photograph of Toni Riera, responsible photographer for the image of pasha, in which a young carefree walking with her young daughter, both with hippy clothing appears.
This is one of the most famous photos of Riera, and although it is made in Amsterdam (1972) is an image representing hippy aesthetics and spirit and is closely linked to a time on the island.

The event will be held at 21am in the place where the bronze sculpture will be installed (at the corner of the streets Lluis Tur i Palau with Guillem de Montgri, in the port of Vila) and both Riera and Urgell invite all interested to attend because they want to give it a popular character.

Riera emphasizes that Ibiza is possibly the only place in the world where monuments have been dedicated to privateers and the hippies: "In Ibiza, neither kings nor presidents: hippies and pirates," he jokes.
