Right after serious consideration ( hope there are some experts on here)

Off to Ibiza for 7 days on Wednesday (and my decision is maybe influenced by the fact that I will be in no fit state most of the time)

Right here goes - I dont trust myself abroad with a switch card (lose it - draw money out and not remember !!!)

so I was thinking of taking £300 in euro currency and £800 in travellers cheques

Should I get the travellers cheques in sterling( commision free at lloyds) or get them in euros ( at a rate of 1.41?)

Will I get charged to cash these out in Ibiza?

Am I doing right thing? If not then what should I do?

It works out cheaper to use your switch card, if you had more time you could open a second account with a card too, so if you did lose one you would just have to transfer your money, most advise I have seen on here in the past recommends using switch cards, but have a look around especially on this forum page you might find more answers

Take your card and do what I do:
I go to the bank machine while sober, take out my budget for the day, and that's it. If you're worried about losing it the card, then go put it back in the hotel room before you go out for the night.

If there's money left the next morning, cool... take out just enough to get you back up to that daily budget (or take out your full daily budget and splurge with the previous day's leftovers :D )

I've always been told to get my travellers cheques in Sterling - but other posters are right about cash card.

I usually go with about 100 Euros in cash then hit the cashpoint when I need it.

If your going out at night leave the card behind - just get the cash out during the day!

Yep and make sure you take out decent amounts of money as well so as you're not constantly being charged the withdrawel fee. I got out lots of 200 euros every time I went and then put anything back in the safe that I wasn't going to need.
