Help please.

WE

Hi. I am hoping to holiday in Ibiza next summer. We are a young-minded middle aged couple. We go self-catering because we love to eat out and like a place with some life but not rowdy, preferably NOT English style bars! We need to be near a nice beach. My daughter - who has visited Ibiza many times, but mainly for clubbing - suggests St Eulalia or Figueritas any views or comments would be really helpful. Also, any ideas on which tour operaters to use? Thanks.

Santa Eulalia is the place, it is quieter and more sophisticated but an ideal spot to get to other places on the island. Thompsons do packages but it all works out cheaper if you book the flight and hotel seperately. A good reasonably priced hotel in Santa Eulalia is the Tres Torres.

I like Figueretas as it's so close to Ibiza Town. It's a more cosmopolitan mix and few English bars, although at the Playa D'en Bossa end there's a bit, but it's not as 'in your face' as in San Antonio.

Thanks for the help. Seems to me its a matter of opinion. Is there enough in Figueritas to keep us happy in the evenings eg lots of restaurants? St Eulalia is my favourite so far, but is it too far from everywhere else? Is Figueritas really quiet in the evenings with no bars and restaurants? Sorry to be a pain but holidays are very important to us and I want to get it right!

Figueritas is (essentially) a suburb of Ibiza Town. You can walk into Ibiza town in about 20 mins from Figueritas of drive in 5.

there aint toooo much to do in Figueritas in the evening, the resaurants are ok but nothing special. the bars are fine if you like gay germans ;)

Thanks all. St Eulalia it is then! Casper I see you live there? Can you give me some idea of prices please? Meal for 2, wine, beers, shorts, sun-beds, excursions etc. Is St Eulalia more expensive to stay in than the other resorts? Thank you for your help.

I'm always ready to eschew the virtues of Santa Eulalia, IMO it is one of the nicest places to be in Ibiza. It is within easy reach of most places except San Antonio which I don't like much anyway. It is a working Spanish town which stays open all year round so tourists mix with locals just about everywhere except for the dreadful English bars in the town.

There are excellent restaurants here and one of the nicest cocktail bars on the Island (Liquido) which is situated in the Marina, has excellent views, comfy sofas and plays mostly laid back Spanish house music. Oh one other bonus - we don't allow kids in so you can drink all night in peace.

As for hotels most customers rave about Ses Estaques because they don't allow kids under sixteen there and Tres Torres because it has views across the marina and is an easy walk into town.

As to eating and drinking, well you can get most of anything at varying prices. The Spanish bars all do menu del dias from between eight and ten euros or you can go upmarket and spend around twenty euros each on a two course meal. Wine prices obviously vary but you can get drinkable wines in most places for ten to twelve euros a bottle and under. If you really want to push the boat out we sell Cristal champagne for €220 a bottle which is €200 euros a bottle less than the nightclubs!

Sunbeds are €3 a day. If you do end up in SE then avoid the excursions to the Hippy Markets, the hotels charged fifteen euros this year and you can get a bus from behind the town hall for seventy cents. I don't know a lot about any other excursions, but I am sure that there are plenty.

Santa Eulalia is a more expensive destination than Cala Llonga or Es Cana but then it is a lot more sophisticated.

Please ask if you have any other specific questions.
