Sunday 22nd August will see a one off, extra special live performance by 'Madchester' legends The Happy Mondays. Organised by 'Get Loaded Events' and their monthly Turnmills party, the event will take place on Clapham Common in London and will see the band play together for the first time since 2000.
Front man Shaun Ryder had this to say:
"For me this is about putting something back in. I've been working with Get Loaded and [promoter] Kav [Sandhu] for some time now and when the lads came up with the idea and said we'd be pushing loads of new bands as well, it just seem only right to be involved. I'm not dealing with corporates here, I'm dealing with a group of lads who just wanna make something happen!"
On Clapham Common, The Happy Mondays will headline the main stage with DJ support from Hacienda Legend Grame Park, Arthur Baker, Clint Boon (Insprial Carpets), New Order bass player Peter Hook, and Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce of The Smith with more guests to be announced. Tickets for the event are currently available through Ticketmaster.
Since its launch in February 2004 and going with a mixture of Indie/Rock/Funk/Northern Soul and Breaks, Shaun Ryder has taken on the role of resident DJ at the monthly parties, inviting down cult heroes like Mani and Monday's pal Bez to spin their favourite tunes. Their next bash is a 'Factory Records Special' at Turnmills on Thursday 1st July featuring former head honcho Tony Wilson as the special guest.
