Hair extensions

I've got a jaw-length bob but despite only getting it cut last week am starting to wish that my hair was quite a bit longer - around shoulder length which would take ages to grow.

Has anyone any experience of hair extensions? I've always assumed they wouldn't look and feel especially nice but maybe you can get decent ones?

How long do they last for?

i have had them a few times - and getting them done this friday for ibiza

definately real hair is best and find a good stylist...

i use michelle henderson based in london www.michellehenderson.co.uk

extensions will last 2-6 months dependent on how you look after them.

you can wash and style and colour your hair. the main thing is to dry off the bones VERY thoroughly.

if you want any more help/advice please ask!

Cheers spacemonkey! I'm in split minds as I would like to see my hair longer but I've been put off them in the past as you see so many celebrities with really dodgy, obviously fake ones. However I read that Jade Jagger and a few other natural-looking people have them and I would never have guessed.

How much do you pay for them? Does it depend on the length? I'd be looking at going from a jaw-length bob to shoulder-length.

I'm also a bit concerned about how they match the colour. How do they make it look real?

Finally, can you go swimming with them in?

the cost really depends, i pay about £300-400 for a full head which is what you would need going from a bob to shoulder length (or longer)

its less for hald a head - if you have long layers in your bob you may get away with this.

its not so much the length as the number of bonds which costs the money.

yes you can swim, but dry your hair well afterwards. and tie it back...!

i used to have extensions all the time , but have not had any for a year (since ibiza last year) but its worth it for a special occasion..... or holiday.

the colour matching depends on your stylist, michelle is great and she can actually match highlights, or even blend the hair to lighten/darken your hair too.

if you are serious about it i would recommend a trip to see her. she is in brentford really close to heathrow.

you could get a flight or train down here pretty cheap and she does pretty much everyones hair i know! as she does not work out of a salon she is much cheaper .... you will pay £600+ in London for real hair extensions!

plus you will get a london clubbing weekend with your new hair!!! lol

I have always thought about these as my hair takes forever to grow. Doesnt help with all the abusing I do to it!!

Just dont think I would look after them very well/afford them!

they are quite high maintenance that the main reason i dont have them all the time....

I had blonde extensions for Ibiza once and I hated them. I fiddled with them so much I pulled them out. Mine were synthetic, horrible, you can't use heated appliances on them. So definately get real hair.

yes, its very hard not to spend all day picking at them!!!!!

I had them for years and cant even begin to imagine how much they cost me. I know it was extortionate tho..

However, I would say if you go for it if you have straight(ish) hair - they look fab. Unfortunately, I have wild curly hair and unless you reallly looking after them and take care of them you will end up with dreadlocks at the roots. Took my hair 2 years of having no extensions to grow back to a "decent" condition - I loved them tho...

My hair wont grow past shoulder length (been trying to grow it since I was 17!!!) :spank: :spank: :spank:

I really don't like hair extensions, they just remind me of WAG wannabees and reality TV z-listers - I'm sure people's from here looked lovely tho   ;)

Also I would have moral issues about using real hair :?

Have some of my hair, it's like a big wig.
I'd go for the clip in ones, they always look more realistic.
