Hair Extensions

Has anyone ever had them? How much do they cost? How long does it last?

I'm considering getting some for my birthday, I've never had long hair  and I really want to see what I look like with a long flowing mane :D

My sister has recently had them done - cost £500 and in my eyes look hideous!!

Best bet is to go to an african shop and get one's that can be stuck in - they work wonders! And a lot cheaper! :D

If you get it done properly you're looking at a few hundred pounds Bec, it's not cheap.

My personal opinion is that they look awful, like having skanky rats tails hanging from your head  Plus they damage your real hair.

very difficult to get right, i think "posh" is the only person I have ever seen them look good on.......get it wrong and it's "adele silva" :?

if you just want to see what you look like, borrow a wig.

an even cheaper option is to hang your hair down, get two mirrors and place them so they double the length of your hair (i.e. place them under the tips of your hair on either side of your head) whilst still allowing you to see your own body. Then get someone to take a photo.

Talking of hair - mines currently black would really love it to be platinum blonde!! Know it would kill my hair though!! :D

I have had several types of hair extensions and contrary to popular belief if you take care of them properly your real hair doesn't get ruined. It is a good idea to go to an African salon to get the glued ones in if you aren't looking to have them for a long time those are much cheaper and once you learn you can also do them yourself. I have also had the ones when my real hair gets corn-rowed and the extensions sewn on. More expensive but last for about four months and is actually better for your hair because most of it stays out of the way of any damaging material. There are also other types that are much much much more expensive and last about six months. These are the kind the stars generally get. However, I have had great experiences with extensions and I absolutely love them and they look so real that even the people I go to school with who see me everyday, when I took them out, asked me why I cut my hair. The trick is to buy quality hair and to take care of them.

DO NOT DO IT - unless you are prepared to spend hours maintaining your extensions - its a total nightmare - I have spent probably over £1,000 in having these done of the years - at first they are fab, and you feel like a princess, but the reality is they are a total pain to look after.

my hair ended up going into natural dreadlocks the first time I had them done early 90's - so I just let it - that looked fab! Second time, wasnt too bad, but they looked manky after a bit - 3rd time - I went to Ibiza and ended up hacking them off with kitchen scissors because it was far too hot and sticky and became too much to look after....

Personally I wouldnt bother again...
