Guide to Ibiza music

Can anyone provide a guide to Ibiza music?

Does anyone have such a thing? I've looked at the bit on Spotlight by 'El Kiwi' but the audio links don't seem to work. Perhaps if I explain what I like then someone can tell me what it's called? Ok, here goes...

I like an ambient sound, the sort that's often associated with the Balearics, but not just the slow stuff, also stuff that has a reeasonable pace for dancing. A good commercial example would be Lady by Modjo. I've got a few other slower ones as well, Dalminjo (Departure Lounge) is an example of the slower stuff I like, or Groove Armada's At The River etc.

Does anyone know what this 'genre' is called and what DJs / nights to look out for? Apologies if I sound like I dunno what I'm on about, I'm an indie kid these days, dance music for me was always Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Underworld and the 90s rave scene . I like the stuff I've described in the paragraph above, but I've no idea what to call it or what to look for, that's the only reason I haven't got any more of it! I've tried several Ibiza compilations but they never seen to hit the spot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

EDIT: I will be in Ibiza 11th to 25th June, probably going to Space on Sun 22nd - can anyone tell me what sort of music those DJs will play, and where I can listen for some examples? Cheers...

They play house music by day and more banging techno in the wee small hours.

A good way to find out about Ibiza genres is through youtube. Just type in keywords and see & hear what takes your fancy. Heres a few to get you started: Pacha, Tiesto, Cream, Cocoon, Carl Cox, Circo Loco, Electro etc etc

You don't have to be a music buff to go to Ibiza.. just go with trhe flow- there is something for everyone!

For scarletjim

I would say have a listen to the radio station 'Ibiza Sonica' online,Sy already mentioned Charles Webster,he has a show on there, also Andy Wilson's Balearia is great for the sort of thing you are looking for, both of these speak english if that's an issue? So you can get what they are saying about the sounds.Check out the program listings, cool website as well....:D

from what you have described to me it sounds like you may like to try the HED KANDI series of cds.

possible HED KANDI BEACH HOUSE. every year they release a new beach house compilation which has a range of deep house, balearic, ambient, chill. just easy listening. im also a fan of the beach house stuff. and also try HED KANDI: SERVED CHILLED cds which again are cds which have alot of chilled tunes on.

im a fan of both series of these cds. not so much the other hed kandi stuff but def these two series of compilations. and also DEFECTED RECORDS

as for djs who might play what you like. id say, MIGUEL MIGS, BEN WATT, JAY-J, PETE GOODING, and if you are going to SPACE then there are many different rooms in space that play different music so im sure you would find a room you like.

also CAFE MAMBO, CAFE DEL MAR, CAFE SAVANNAH in san antonio (the sunset strip), here you will find alot of balaeric music from the start of the day right up until sunset.

and you could always try DEF MIX at PACHA with david morales, and frankie knuckles, or SOUL HEAVEN on a sunday at el divino with LOUIE VEGA(masters at work). he plays quite alot of latin, balearic, jazz, us house, deep house, soulful house.

hope this helps you my friend, have a great hol

The new beach angel album is out this monday so keep an eye out for that as it has some wickedly nice beachy type stuff.

Also for the chill-out stuff angels fall 2 has quite a few classic chill out tracks on the 3rd CD with a load other nice stuff on the other two...

Also keep an eye out for anything on naked music as they are the dons of that sort of laid back house and quite a lot of miguel migs back cat will be more than suitable (he's a thoroughly nice chap to boot)
