TROUBLE BREWING FOR GRAN
A depression-hit grandmother has been arrested for drug dealing from her home.
Patricia Tabram, 66, admitted growing cannabis plants in her bungalow and supplying it to friends, in an array of dishes she prepared for them.
She made herbal cookies, casseroles and soups for friends after being given the drug last February in a cigarette.
Tabram said: "I suffer from depression, whiplash in my neck and back pain. I went to to bed and the next morning I felt so much better.
"I didn't know what I had taken so I asked my friends who said it was cannabis. I don't like smoking it so they said I could cook it."
The bespectacled, grey-haired gran's house in Humshaugh near Hexham, Northumberland, is not the typical drug den.
But when police raided her home, following a tip off about the smells emanating from her home, they found a total of 32 cannabis plants.
Far from being intimidated by the officers, she pointed them to plants they had missed while offering them tea and biscuits.
She appeared at Newcastle Crown Court after admitting one charge of possession of a Class C drug with intent to supply.
Proceedings were adjourned for the preparation of reports and Mrs Tabram was remanded on bail until March 11.
