Grammys...Tina Turner :-0

Pretty good wasn't it?

Highlights:

Alicia Keys - loved her Sinatra duet but frankly can't stand that number that she shouts all the way through. Shut up woman.

Tina Turner - last time I saw her was about 10 years ago and she was looking really craggy. I swear I thought it was Whitney when she appeared prancing around the stage in a silver bustier.   Amazing woman. Strangely still has sex appeal.

Kanye West - annoying hip hop arrogance when he picked up his award. Grrrr...can't stand all that bullsh!t. "Yo, you gonna play music over me?"

Amy Winehouse - absolutely sensational and a much more charismatic performance than usual.

...& Herbie Hancock!?!? I didn't expect that one...very well deserved (and a humble acceptance speech in contrast to Kanye tw@t face).

I was trying to tell you people but you just wouldn't listen

Yes, he's an arrogant piece of work, but wasn't he talking about his recently-deceased mother when they tried to orchestra him off? Give the guy a break!

Living away from home I've gotten out of the habit of catching these awards shows... I wonder if someone's put just the good performances up on BitTorrent :?:

I really enjoyed the Grammys last night...

Thought Tina Turner was AMAZING!!! For a woman in her 60's boy can she rock!!! She outdanced Beyonce (almost ) and she looked and sounded hot!!

I really liked Kanye West's performance too.... ok he is very arrogant but I thought he had a fair point when he asked them to turn the music off when he was dedicating his award to his mum (who died a few months ago). The organisers should allocate their time better, it's so rude to just bring music in on people like that.
I thought Kanye's song to his Mum was really touching too.

Amy Winehouse sounded fab and looked slightly more with it than I've seen her in the past! I love her little dance moves - she needs to get some stage presence though, at times she looks like a little girl lost up there.
Great to see her almost back to her best, stay off the crack Amy!

Isn't that part of her appeal?

I think if she lost that then she wouldn't seem as 'real' any more.

It reminds me of Joss Stone's transition from giggly innocent bare footed teenager to purple headed monster (for want of a better description).

Oops I didn't realise Kanye's mum had pegged.

I dunno, she has such an amazing voice I'd love to see her get up there and command the stage, and really put on an amazing show. When I watch her it seems that she could mess it up any minute. For someone who went to stage school she doesn't seem very comfortable performing in front of people.
I just think she has a lot more to give performance-wise, and maybe once she gains confidence she'll show it.

NB - Did you ever see some of her performances years ago, when she looked "normal"? She had tons more confidence than now!

Actually no - I only got into her after the second album when someone told me to take notice.

Prior to this, I had her down as another yawnful Aguilera pop princess type.

I've got her live dvd at home which is brilliant but not as good as her Mercury or Grammys performances.

I bought her first CD Frank at the weekend as I have heard parts of it and her voice is a lot mellower and its more jazz chill out music. Really good so far what I have heard of it. And she looks better in the pics in the CD!

Best line of the evening: "I just got an award presented to me by a Beatle. Have you had that happen yet, Kanye?" -Vince Gill (whoever that is. lol)

Found out last night that Tina played in Moscow on Monday for Gazprom's private 15th anniversary party. Then today I found out that she was living in the hotel across the street from my office!:eek::eek:

My assistant, bless her heart, went to the bank machine there on Monday but only today figured out why all the groupees were hanging around in the lobby

Wish I had known ahead of time... Could have joined them  (or at least could have tried to blag an invite to the concert )

Yes, this got appended to coverage here of Putin's warning to Ukraine not to join Nato. Apparently Putin's protege Medvedev is also a huge fan of Deep Purple, who played at the same Gazprom.

In other news: another oligarch/Putin foe's popped his clogs in mysterious circumstances in London.

I thought Amy Winehouse seemed poor (by her standards) and she seemed shouty and tailed off a lot on her lines.

When she started doing that "to my husband who's incarcerated" and "shout out to Camden Town" dedications, she presence shifted quickly from "smoky voiced diva" to "aldi shelf stacker".

Yes, I saw how the Evening Standard covered it. But no one in Russia gives a rat's about Patarkatsishvili and haven't for a long time.

In his native Georgia, on the other hand, where he singlehandedly publicly stirred up massive protests and forced President Sakashvilli into calling an early election, I think he's made a whole host of enemies. But we like Georgia... they're democratic... so doubtful there'll be much noise on that front.

But we digress...

I hear the grey-haired Gazprom execs were sitting quietly through most of the concert. What a waste!
