Going to Brazil in a couple of weeks - anything I should be checking out?

Well if its in a couple of weeks you're missing one of the biggest parties there is...

not that I'm any help, am I?  ;)

Try sending a private message to Conrado, a Spotlighter from Brazil. He hasn't been around much lately but if he's got email notification turned on then perhaps he'll reply.

last week was carnaval... i'm on the process of recovery after being in florianopolis and rio. amazing!

i was for the first time for carnaval in florianopolis and for the people on this thread i strongly recommend going there. there's an el divino beach club in one of the island's beaches which has just the same ibiza vibe. house music all day long, people drinking, dancing, matresses on the beach with umbrellas, waiters that bring you whatever you want. very cool.

also, there's a city to the north of florianopolis called camboriú (80 km north) which is a south american ibiza under construction. i saw deep dish play at warung beach club (www.warungclub.com.br) and at 8 am they stopped playing and said "we've already missed our plane, but you guys made this night so uncredible that we don't care, we'll keep playing until noon", and so they did...

warung is in an environmental protected area, surrounded by green hills, in front of the beach along with another club and a future pacha beach club.

unfortunately, carnaval is over and i can't think of partying so soon...

i took some pictures and made some movies of warung, i'll post it later.

a few meters from warung beach club is kiwi bar, that's a club during the night and a beach club during the day.

pacha is building a beach club right beside warung and kiwi bar. basically it's gonna be three amazing clubs in an environmental preservation area surrounded by virgin atlantic rainforest in front of the beach...

in time, james zabiela is playing at warung on thursday (march 1st), if you're there, go!

john digweed was raving about this club and even produced a tune called "warung beach" :!:

sorry, wrong info about zabiela. i was checking the pictures to post them here, and actually zabiela isn't playing @ warung, it was just an add for a gig in curitiba...

Thanks guys! I'm actually flying in about a week to Rio de Janeiro so any info that can be provided would be great.

Obviously we missed one of the biggest parties on the globe but this was a conscious decision by the person heading the trip. I would have preferred going during carnival but oh well

A question - Warung looks like a place to definitely check out but I'm not clear on location. Is it in Rio or near?

Warung - 1000 km south of rio, 1:30 hour flight

in Rio - March 10 th Chemical Music Festival (Gui Boratto, Anderson Noise, Steve Angello, Digitaria among others - 4 different stages)

and that's it...

Oh well. I'm sure we'll have a good time. Are there no big clubs to look out for even if it's just local djs?

guide to rio:

- mondays - Baixo Gávea, it's not a club but a bunch of bars, open air, where people just go there to drink, get drunk and meet other people, make friends, make out, etc. very popular and busy.

- tuesdays - Maja (Party) @ Pista 3 (Rua São João Batista,14), on March 6th, Magda (aka Magda Hojnacka, from Liverpool) is playing. I saw her playing with Steve Bug and Loco Dice, very good. Not much of a place to pick girls, though.

- wednesdays - Baronetti (kind of a posh club, but it's fun to know), get there early around 23 h if you don't want to stay forever in line. be careful of the jiu-jitsu fighters, make sure the girl you're talking to isn't girlfriend to any of them. Besides that, perfect to meet girls.
- Nuth Lounge (at Barra district, a bit far from Ipanema/Copacabana) - the perfect place to have fun and get lucky with the girls.

- thurdays - go to 00 (zero zero, www.00site.com.br), it's more about the music and the open air terrace. Not much of a place to pick girls.

- fosfobox (http://www.fosfobox.com.br/), the best music but a claustrophobic dungeon, get there late.

don't worry, you'll have fun and plenty of things to do.
