good luck to the Liverpool Socceroos.

especially when they move into the Budweiser GiroDome or whatever its gonna be called

Nope not at all, A small percentage of Liverpool fans are unhappy but that's down to the tradition of the club. Most are, like me, very very excited by this....

Will be a shame to leave Anfield but we need a stadium capable of holding at least 60,000.

The plan to leave Anfield long pre-dated the Americans, though.

Funny article in the Times today about the new Cold War. The Americans (Liverpool, Villa, Man U) against the Eastern bloc (Chelsea, Hearts, Portsmouth). This time, rather than setting up puppet regimes and insurgent wars in 3rd world nations, the battle will take place on the football pitches of England!

I saw that article too, very amusing ;)

Apparently the Dubai consortium are looking at buying the Arsenal now that Liverpool fell through.. would make sense given our current sponsor!

Bigger ground = more punters = higher matchday revenues

It's something all the top teams want (witness Man U's recent expansion, Arsenal's new stadium, Chelsea's attempts to get permission to expand Stamford Bridge).

Gets you higher up in the Deloitte richest clubs list ;)

exactly and Liverpool were 'only' 10th this year!

yeah thanks for the business advice morbs:roll: .

my point is twofold:
1) i don't think, with good reason, we will continually fill a 60,000 stadium
2) more revenue is not what LFC is about, so you can fcuk your rich lists. the negatives of losing anfield outweigh the positives of moving to a generic stadium with a few more seats.

Anfield is at the core of everything that embodies LFC, more so I would say than any other football club in the world. For example, what is the likelihood of us changing the colour of our kit in order to obtain a greater revenue, it just wouldn't happen.

1, I think we'll sell out for every league game it's an absolute nightmare trying to get tickets at the moment. The only game I've been able to go to this year was the champions league game against bordeaux and that was the away leg too!
2, Moving from Anfield will be very sad but we've got to move on if we want to compete V.sad but true!

I agree. Move with the times.

I will be as sad as anyone to say good-bye to Anfield, as I was when the Kop went from standing to seated.

When Stevie G and Carra met the Americans they stressed the Design of the new stadium has to have the fans in mind, in the way our fans act as a extra man. They agreed that this is important and will be done.

The past will never be forgotten, but now the future is what is important

[edit post and insert sarcy comment here if, please God/FSM, it does]

(just leaving myself a reminder:lol: )

Well, Jez asked why. That's why!

No matter how much tradition teams have, they all desire more revenue. Allows you to invest more in the team, for one thing, which improves results and thus perpetuates the team's traditions.

This debate is nothing new... and it's not unique to English football. I remember when American football's Washington Redskins left Robert F Kennedy Stadium for their new home at (gag) FedEx Field. Sad day indeed... but the new stadium is more modern and nearly twice as big. And it sells out.

You can find examples in plenty other teams and sports as well. Hell, they even tore down Wembley! (before I got a chance to go there  dreamed of attending a concert there as a kid). No one wants to leave hallowed ground, but sometimes the plusses outweigh the minuses.

Isn't the great Liverpool tradition built on success? Because these days revenue=success=revenue=success ad infinitum. If Liverpool don´t keep up with the Chelseas, Arsenals, Man Us etc, in 20 yrs time they´ll be nothing special about them to anyone. Well accept their own die hard fans and that´s true of all clubs

So Liverpool need to sell out too in order to have a future? Is it classed as selling out?
I know bugger all about the politics of footy BTW, finding this thread interesting though.

true but having a stadium that allows 15,000 more fans for the bigger games is not going to make or break us.

i could talk forever on this subject and i'd only serve to wind myself up..........so i'm going to live it there.

I agree I don't think the stadium will make any difference towards what happens on the pitch. I would quite happily stay at Anfield - but the way I see it is the decision has been made to move, so may as well go with it...

I am excited by the take-over though... anything that can help put us above the mancs and the chavs can only be a good thing :)
