Gutted - the link's gone down again..... and I wanted to checkout the Soulwax remix of the Gossip too - sounds like it has the makings of a quality finishing record.

Picture the scene...This guy (on hearing one of my old cd's) has got in touch with me and asked me to do a mix for a music/clubbing website he's starting up. Frankly I hold no expectations of it's success - the guy is a little local kid with delusions of taking on and revolutionising the international clubbing climate as we know it. He's not really too versed in all things rave, though bless his heart for trying, i say.

And I can't deny I was a little flattered. As I said he's a local lad that used to go to my school, was a few years below me n stuff, and random phonecalls to the tune of “Hi Dan x, it’s Thingy (not his real name) here, remember me from school? Your mate Thingy2 (not his real name, either) just let me have a listen to your cd is I love it” is kind of the things that gets me into making mix cd's TBH.

So yeah, in his exact words (after telling me how amazing I was, and a brief outline of his plans for world musical domination) "Can you do me a 60 minute electro mix". Whilst he may not actually know exactly that he's talking about musically, I'll read between the lines of his devotion to places like Pacha London, and here's what I came up with.

Focusing on the positives, and whilst I'm pretending to be dismissive about it all, it's not actually a bad effort, if I do say so myself. Mixing's tight and (reasonably) imaginative, I've made it all without any cheap Swedish (I think) nonsense, and aside from the con's I'm about to go into, I stand by each track's inclusion and I can take solace it fits the 'design brief' nigh on perfectly. Also, it's all well and good saying you have a great *inseert genre* cd inside you, though stepping up to the plate and actually doing one are two different things. So consider that a positive too.

But yeah, even if you've got this far (thanks for reading) you're eyes may skim down to see the tracklist, and the rather anthemic nature of it. Yes, that includes the Ramirez mix of Bodyrox (sorry Tracy), and I dare say you'll think you've heard it all before, despite my clearly subjective opinion that this is clearly the most amazing juxtapostion and setting of said tracks, to the naked eye, I can see it's limited appeal.

I can't deny I'm suffering some sense of post-natal-depression with it. I could have (and should have) done this cd 6 or even 12 months ago. And not to mention the fact it makes it harder for me to convince myself I (still) don't have appaulingly basic tastes in music.

So then, is this nearly the worst marketing shpeil you've ever heard for a downloaded set? Maybe, but that only because I'm talking to a bunch of moderate music-heads, even if you do all like really, really **** music (but **** in a 'cool' way). Consider the alomost apologetic nature of this intro a mark of some deluded respect.

Give it a whirl, if only if you too are bored of good, underground music, or if any of you have younger siblings or "friends" that really should be given a lesson in how this **** should be done.
