Getting to Formentera........

I'm sure the question has been asked before......but here goes.....

Myself and the missus fly out to the white isle on Monday and we fancy going over to see what Formentera is all about.

We will be based in San An Bay so presume that the only realistic option is going to Ibiza Town and getting the ferry over.

Is there any cheap ticket options???? We looked into it last year and I'm sure we were getting quoted about £65 per person.

Any advice would be appreciated (ie are there advance tickets or discounted websites etc)

Thanks in advance

A cheaper option might be to get one of the day trip boats from Figueretas or Bossa.
Around 19-22€ return.

How long does it take to get over to Formentera on one of those little boat jobs?

We went on a trip to the hippy market from San An Bay last year and it took 4hrs and nearly capsized.....I have got good sealegs but this thing took the proverbial.....and now the missus doesn't fancy one of those kind of boats....so she may take some persuading!

The quickest I think would be Ulises Cat, 40 minutes.
The slowest and smallest is definitely Aqua Bus....

By far the best and quickest way is to hop on a bus to Ibiza Town and get a fast ferry from the port. It costs under 50 Euros return and you're over there in less than half an hour. Return trips depart up to 8pm or so and therefore you don't need to rush back.

Get the Balearia fast ferry which takes 30 mins... I got a return ticket last April for 55e and that included a scooter hire for the day from one of the rental places in the marina... :D

I used the aquabus last time, it took about an hour. I loved bouncing up and down on the waves with the wind on my face, beer in hand, brilliant! My friend on the other hand who suffers from travel sickness didn't have such a good time, especially after a heavy night out.

:lol::lol::lol:

I think I only paid about 40 euros return with Balearia when I went last month...not sure though, and I stayed in Formentera for four days so don't know if that made any difference. Beautiful place.

My sister seems to think there is a small boat goes from san Antonio to Formentera.. anyone know the company or times?

As for Aqua Bus... Are you better to get on at Figueretas or Playa d'en Bossa? going in September.. my sister already went in 2013 to Formentera but says she went by ferry and wants a cheaper option this time.

Avoid the small boat from San Antonio unless you want to spend most of the day on a boat. We always drive through to Ibiza Town and get the boat from there.

Hire a Vespa on Formentera and spend the day scooting about, great day out.

where do we hire the vespa and do we book it in advance? was looking at cooltra earlier but the minimum was a full day hire?

We got the ferry from bossa, nice journey if you're not in a rush. Also hired a quad for around 40e, which was brilliant for two us who were/are too scared to drive scooters

As you got off the boat, walked straight ahead (slightly to the left) and there was a hirer company there on the right. I'm a bit of a horder, so I could have a look if I kept anything. Probably a receipt or map they gave us that may have the name of company. Was really good for going down the caminos to the different quiet beaches!

Not able to look at home, but using google maps Im certain it was 4 or 6 Carrer de la Mare de Déu del Carme, Balearic Islands, Spain. The one painted pink that says "Torres" on the sign. We may have been given a leaflet on the boat from Ibiza for discount.

Looking at the map is making me plan another day out there in May  Loved Playa Migjorn, and the visiting the blue bar :)

Used Ulises Cat boat this time from Playa Den Bossa to Formentera (think it's the same company as Captain Hook-both stands were using the same boat).

It was 22 euros return, and 40 euros for the quad bike. You paid at the same time as you got the boat ticket, got a voucher and used the first hire company as you exit the boats in Formentera. Seemed like a decent quad bike, big safe box for storage on the back. Six of us had 3 quads for about 6/7 hours, and the petrol was 8 euros- so 24 euros each was not bad in my opinion. We went port-Cala Saona-blue bar-Es Arenals-the town where Topic is-Illetas and back to the port.

Going to stay on the Island next time for at least a few days.....

I had an overnight last year, and two nights this year. Next time I want at least five so I can properly relax.

Went with Ulises last year. Paid a wee bit more with Trasmapi this year but greater flexibility on return times were key (since we were going straight to airport from the boat). Last year the Ulises cat just decided to sail an hour later than scheduled and i didn't want that stress on the last day.
