getting money changed/new post office card

hello there i shall be leaving for the magical white isle on saturday at noon . however i havent got my money changed as yet as i only get paid tomorrow, just wondering if anyone knows about these new post office cards - can i just get one there and then and put my money on it? or does it have to be posted out?? my mate was telling me that there are no travellers cheques anymore, this is a maaajor hassle as i hate carrying a lot of cash when im going abroad, anyone any ideas?
