Sounds like a glorified Ritzys :?

I give it 6 months, there's enough of those types of places in Leeds as it is. Unless they get a strong music policy/strong ressies then they're never going to attract people away from the likes of Basics, Mint Club, Speedqueen and it's just going to be another club with same old same old funky house policy, same old same old guests and nothing to distinguish it.

Gatecrasher just don't know what they're doing with their brand and this just seems like a desperate measure to try and keep the Gatecrasher name flying (albeit at half mast)

Imo.

Gatecrasher has announced details of its long awaited second nightclub. Discothèque, a chic new clubbing experience, will explode onto the Leeds nightscene in September. The club, which will also incorporate a hip bar, is set to become the place to be seen for the trendy party goers of the city playing tunes to match all tastes.

why has the word 'trendy' always got to ne used such a townie word

because that is the audience crasher want to appeal to, they want to appeal to people that consider themself "trendy" and into "funky" house.

it's commercially viable, popular and pretty inoffensive. they arent really pigeon holed or consigned to anything, and can move on easily when the next fad come.

house music is becoming quite mainstream again, gc have latched on to this, "trendy-ness" is becoming mainstream as well. every f***ers got a mullet and the highstreet is full of ripped jeans.

it's just not gatecrasher :(

Are you saying everyone should be decked out in Cyber instead?

Anyhow what is the real Gatecrasher? The brilliance that was GC back at The Arches in the mid 90's or when it was all ruined by the cyberkids?

no, i am saying it should be anything but the main stream, the hedonistic place before cyberkids, the height of the crasherkids.. whatever, just something that isnt available at 5 other venues in every city in the country.

Gatecrasher don't know what they're trying to do these days so that's why they're pitching themselves at the masses now who want their 'safe' bland house in a 'safe' little club. There's nothing to distinguish it from so many other places which is why I said give it 6 months.

People who used to go to Gatecrasher have moved on and won't want to be associated with what Gatecrasher has become.

The people who they're attracting now would rather go to some Ritzy type place rather than pay what they consider extornionate entrance fee and over-priced drinks and who don't give a funk who's behind the decks as long as they're playing the lastest Hed Kandi compilation.

Guilty as charged!

I'm proud to say i stopped going there when the cyberkids moved in.

The upstairs room used to be good though when the likes of Norman Jay played regularly and local dj's such as Dino etc.

I would imagine that the blueprint for Leeds GC will be the same as it is in Sheffield.
Cheese , R&B and a little house through the winter months and in the summer when all the students have gone home, create a pretense of cool by claiming to be a house venue.
Put on a couple of big names on Bank Holidays for good measure. Just to keep the pretense alive.

The brand has moved away from its traditional trance and harder edged routes and now plays all styles of music, mirroring the music policy of its sister club in Sheffield, Gatecrasher One.”

The Majestyk and Evolution in Leeds had better watch out cause GC is coming for your VK totting customers. Cant imagine SpeedQueen, Mission or Basics et al have lost any sleep.
