Turnmills throws open its doors on Saturday 18th August for a slick and sultry night of soulful and jazzed-up funky house, as we proudly present Garage City’s 16th Anniversary and the mother of all Birthday parties. London legends Bobby & Steve will be hosting their most spectacular event yet as they celebrate nearly two decades in the game with an exclusive UK appearance from the pioneering US veteran, Todd Terry.
Garage City was one of the first parties in the UK to provide a platform for the world’s biggest house DJs and singers to showcase their talent. Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez, Frankie Knuckles, Murk, Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Ten City, Tony Humphries, Adeva, Robert Owens, Terry Hunter, CJ Mackintosh, Terry Hunter… these are just some of the globally renowned stars who have spread the gospel at Garage City over the past 16 years.
Another name to add to that long list of heroes is of course Todd Terry… who himself has graced the hallowed Garage City decks on nearly 10 occasions during this time. The Grammy Award nominated DJ/Producer/Remixer has achieved so much in his lifetime that it’s difficult to know where to start!! He’s produced multiple Top 10 hits in the UK including Jungle Brothers ‘I’ll House You’, Todd Terry ‘Keep On Jumpin’, Royal House ‘Can You Party’ and Todd Terry ‘Somethin’ Going On’, and has released other ground breaking tracks under the monikers:- Black Riot (‘A Day In The Life’), Royal House (‘Party People’), Todd Terry Project (‘Weekend’ & ‘Bango’), House of Gypsies (‘Sume Sigh Say’), Orange Lemon (‘The Texican’ & ‘Dreams of Santa Anna’), Gypsymen (‘Barbaratari’), Lime Life (‘I Wanna Go Bang’), Dupree (‘Brass Disk’), CLS (‘Can You Feel It’), Sax (‘Give Yourself to Me’), and Swan Lake (In The Name of Love’)… the list goes on… and on!! As a remixer, he’s given the ‘Todd’ touch to some of the world’s biggest recording artists including the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Garbage, Usher, Tina Turner, Jamiroquai, Janet Jackson… plus he did his thang on Everything But the Girl’s cult track ‘Missing’, which became one of the biggest crossover club hits of all time. Look out for a new ‘Masterclass’ compilation coming out on MN2S later on the year, but for now get ready to be treated to your very own masterclass right here at Turnmills, as Todd jets in for this special night.
It’s been 12 months since the Garage City gang hosted that unforgettable night to celebrate Birthday No.15 at Turnmills – where Frankie Knuckles and Norman Jay were the special guests… and never ones to rest on their laurels, Bobby & Steve will be looking to emulate that success with another magical night… “The true meaning of Garage City has always been about the vibe and the feeling. It’s a family affair, that has grown with love and respect for one another from the dancers to the DJs past and present – coming together to celebrate that unique house feeling. From the bottom of our hearts we’d like to thank everyone who has danced or played at our Garage City parties.”
To make sure the Birthday goes off with a bang, the guys have called in the cavalry with a debut set from Sweden’s StoneBridge (in T2) and plenty of familiar Garage City ‘faces’ to make some noise behind the decks!! StoneBridge put Sweden on the dance music map long before the current Swedish House Mafia came along. You’ll know him as the man behind floor-filling house anthems ‘Put ‘Em High’ and ‘Take Me Away’ - both Top 10 UK hits, and his current smash ‘SOS’ featuring vocals by Erire looks set to go the same way. Elsewhere, Ricky Morrison will doing his thing in the main room alongside Todd and Bobby & Steve, whilst Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson, Chrissy T, L’America’s Craig Bartlett, Funkie P, James Ratcliff and DJ Dekky keep grooves rolling in T2. Upstairs it’s all about the Garage City Classics, and who better to spin them than some of the guys’ favourite DJs. Step forward Chris Williams, Dan Waterman, Chris Samba, Cory, Martin Mitchell, Kristian Valdini and Martin Lodge.
Bring a smile and your dancing shoes… you’re gonna need them!! Oh yeah, and the 1st 300 people through the door will receive a FREE and exclusive Garage City Birthday CD… well, it wouldn’t be a proper Birthday bash without any presents would it!!??
