Furious last night.............

...........my son was singing with his band at a local venue last night along with 4 other bands. On entering the place with a couple of his friends they were refused service at the bar. They said they would go back home and get their I.D. But, my son doesn't have photo I.D. of any description. He asked if his Birth Certificate would be sufficient and they said yes. His mates went home for their I.D. and took my son 2 miles back home to get his BC.

By the time he returned I had arrived at the venue. I was at the bar when he said they still refused to serve him. So, I challenged the guy who was acting Manager. He said he needed a photo I.D. I said he has his Birth Certificate and that I was his dad (I therefore know all the details on his BC so a couple of simple questions were all that was needed). I said he is nowhere near 18 he's 23 FFS!!! He said take it as a compliment! How can not getting served be a compliment FFS!!! A long argument went on but couldn't get him to relent and he asked if I wanted a complaint form. Of 'course I said and will fill it out and hand it personally to the Manager/Licensee. As far as I'm concerned not accepting his BC was calling my son a liar and me too, cheeky barsteward. He won't get away with it.

On speaking to my sons mates later they said when they showed this tosser their I.D. (they're all 22/23) he said they were all older than him!!! I did a disco in the same venue a year and a half ago for my sons YOUNGER brother's Engagement (19 at the time). My older son was there too and got served without a problem. My son drinks regularly in several pubs/clubs not 100 yards away and all the security staff in town know him well.

My son ended up going the 100 yards to his usual pub for a drink and was given a Coke bottle with Vodka & Coke in it to hide in his pocket. Bl**dy annoying 'cause he had to go onstage and perform with his band after this. As it turned out he and his band did an excellent set although he had to drink from his pocket like a wino all night.

Still furious..............

Think yourself lucky you ain't in America!
I went out in New Jersey once and was refused alcohol because I'm under 30! 8O
When I asked someone to buy a pint on my behalf I got a patronising half smile and, "Sorry man, I just can't do that."

My mate (26) got asked for ID in a local bar the other week....i've not heard the end of it since  (in a look at me look at me how young do i still look way  )

i am 31 and a few months ago i was asked for id to buy ciggarettes?

i was truely speachless and for me that takes some doing

used to work with a guy years ago, bald as a coot and about 26/27 years old but looked mid 30s

he got married in Florida and had to take his passport everywhere as he got asked for id absolutely everywhere

unfortunately, i never get asked for ID now - must be looking my age now!! :?

last time i got ided i was 19 and it was for fags by some old bint in my local spar. it didnt look like she could see very well through the inch thick nhs specs she was wearing, but the girl i was with at the time thought it was very amusing.

Havent read the post, but just need to add I feel shit!!

Moral of the story.....dont drink half a bottle of vodka, some wine, lots of shots, then decide to pop some little ones at 7am

:? 8O

I worked in a petrol station when I was a student and a girl aked me for a packet of cigarettes.

She got very annoyed when I asked her (politely) if she had any proof that she was over 16 and stormed out of the shop......

......then climbed into her car and drove off 8O

I didn't see her drive in

She could have TWOC'd it though i guess ;)

My wife is 35 and she's always IDed when we go to the States. For some reason, however, I am getting asked for ID increasingly less frequently

Hey! If you're old enough to die for your country on the battlefields of Iraq, then you're old enough to own a weapon! .... but better that you don't have a beer in your hand when you're shooting people with it... you might miss!

Update;

Was out training with my running partner who's a prison officer. Was telling him all about it. 50 yards from the end of our 5 mile run believe it or not we passed the same guy. My mate spoke to him as we passed and said to me it's not him is it? I said yeh that's the guy. He then told me he's not an acting manager but a joint manager of the venue. He said I'd probably be wasting my time sending in the complaint form as they would fall back on ' the management reserve the right to refuse.......'. Nothing can be done about it, doesn't address the problem but thats it as far as they are concerned.

Barstewards, bl**dy maddening.

for the first time in years the other week, we went out on the piss in Edinburgh (as opposed to clubbing) to celebrate the birth of a mates' daughter.
At the first bar, we got asked for ID. I think the youngest in the group was 24. Obviously just an arsehole, or so I thought. Even when we split into groups of 2 and 3 (and early on at night, so not even drunk), we were still refused entry to a lot of places.

I guess if you're not a beer-boy in your suit and trousers combo, it's hard to get a drink on a Saturday night in your own city. If I was 17, female, and wearing a short skirt, i'd have my pick of the pubs.

All in all, it confirmed why I don't go on these sorts of nights out.
I've been HAMMERED and still got into my favourite clubs with jeans and trainers on before and had a great night.

Its horrible in America. They ID for everything because the cities are so conservative with the underage consumption of alcohol. At 18, young men and women can give their lives in war, but cannot buy a drink until they are 21. Asinine!!!! :x

hmm... seems to me we've addressed that point somewhere... where was it... oh ya, a couple of posts ago in this same topic!
