downloading now chief, interested about the actual process you use to make these? why do you play out from the laptop and record it straight back?
Convenience really is the short answer, it's either that or record to my desktop or MiniDisc player. With the laptop it's just another cable from the mixer to the laptop.

do you actually mix on the laptop? if so, what program do you use, cheers
I know you've spotted the links but yes I do mix directly on the laptop. In this case I used PCDJ FX VRM on a Tiny Computers laptop. However, that laptop broke down just over a month ago (graphics chip went screwy). I am now using a Dell laptop. Unfortunately, the Dell has a sound drop problem with PCDJ FX (probably 'cos it uses shared graphics memory). So, now I use the old PCDJ Red which is tried and tested, rock solid, NEVER has a problem and uses a third of the resources that FX uses (FX uses 60% processor resources, Red uses only 20%, although it doesn't have as many sophisticated functions).
With the laptop I use a DMC01 Controller (made by Numark) that links up and controls the program. It's almost identical to using a CD Controller only when, say, the left player is stopped, then the left side of the controller has different functions (mainly record case functions, scrolling, switching pages, etc.). When the player is started then it functions just like a typical CD player. Oh, incidently, I use an external Maya USB soundcard which gives full stereo out of each player to 2 channels on a conventional Pioneer DJM600 mixer.
Contrary to popular belief, these computer programs do NOT automatically beatmix the tunes, VirtualDJ, Traktor & DJPower do that, PCDJ never will, it goes against Visiosonics philosophy. It will beatmatch (they mean match the tempo) but the user has to line up the beats manually.
Here's a pic of the now defunct Tiny Laptop Computer with the DMC01 Controller;
For the last 6 1/2 years I've used computers exclusively for deejaying every Fri & Sat, although, in the last couple of weeks since buying a pair of Technics 1210 decks I'm now having fun with vinyl.
Last night I used the computer for 70's,80's & 90's from 7.30 - 9.30pm (the venue's music format) then from 9.30 til midnight I only used vinyl (mainly house, bit of trance, bit of rave, etc). I've got Numark CD players there and a Case Logic full of CD's but never use them.
This my current setup (with new Dell laptop, Numark CD players behind the fan);
Sorry for the long post, but, you did ask! Now you can go and chill.
