Funky House Music

Hi

I would like everyone's advice on the best club for funky house music, we are 5 girls coming on the 30th May till the 2nd. We especially love the old 90's house music does anyone have any suggestions on where to go? We were thinking of doing Space opening party but not sure the music is to our taste!
Thanks Nikki

I like to think of Funky House as a gateway drug. Welcome to the scene. For some revelers a nice bit of cannabis used to be enough. Despite claims of 'i'd never do anything harder', one day it will happen. It turns out Frank and Mrs Walsch in PSE were right all along. Next thing you know you're triple dropping and that little bit of cannabis only comes in useful to bring you back down to earth.

So, you and your pals are fans of the funky stuff, happy days. Your journey has begun.

Maybe your time has come to move on, go to Space Opening, it will be the best thing you ever do. Then when Monday comes I guarantee you won't wanna stop there! See you at DC10.

On the way home, put in the ipod, put on the funky house and thank it for what it has done.

Have an amazing time on the Island!

Jx

hahaha. Brilliant!

Not much Funky House left on the Island to be honest! Hed Kandi or Garlands but even they have changed there music policy a bit!

Unfortunately, they will not be open when your on the Island.

I would defo agree with J and go to Space Opening. Fatboy Slim is playing on the Saturday but thats about as close to funky house you will get!

Have a good holiday

Like said above there certainly does not seem to bee much of funky house left in Ibiza. I like this form of house quite a bit myself as well and from time to time you still get to hear it at some parties. I have listened the best funky house in Pacha. Pacha has a funky room actually and that would be my advice if funky house is what you like to hear in Ibiza. That room has always had a great vibe and besides since it's in Pacha you can always have a look around in case if you would find something else you like... which you probably would ;).

Does anywhere play Funky House? IBZ is pure tech heaven these days.... Go to Pacha London if you want Funky House...

Such a shame that REAL house music is disappearing replaced by soul-less, emotionless Tech(not)house and Electro(not)house. Personally Id stay away from Space if you like funky House, and Id especially stay away from DC10. I find it funny sometimes that the club scene likes to think its sh*t dont stink but as soon as a certain style comes along every DJ and his granny feckin starts to play it - yawwwwnnnn - wheres the choice? Yeah, Pachas probably the closest youll get to true House Music in the rip-off superclubs, but if I were you, Id forsake the punter robbers and check out the smaller venues where youll pay next to nothing to get in, pay normal prices for drinks, and get to enjoy the music you REALLY like. Theres always a temptation to go with the sheep in clubland and go to where they tell you is good - not where you think is good. Dont be a mug, its your night out. Go where you know youll enjoy yourself, not where they tell you to go. And dont apologise for your taste in music either. Cant stand musical snobbery, and the dance scene is the worst offender of all in that area.

Oh, and for those of you stuck in a musical rut concerning Ibiza, thats not what its about at all. The "Balearic" vibe embraces things which you wouldnt even imagine in a club at home. In fact, Id say (worldwide) theres more chillout Ibiza albums sold as anything else. Who here has experienced (musically) that side of the island? Anyone? 8)

If you get there in time Nikki (sunday 30th), head down to Mambo (San An, sunset strip) and see Jose Padilla, (the godfather of Balearic sunset chill) get your night off to a great start. Then head up the West and search for some hands-in-the-air house. Some friendly faces up there will direct you to a good night with the music you require.

Most people who've been to Ibiza, probably. The sunset bars and the chill-out music they play are hardly a secret. I agree that it's bloody good, though, and allows the DJ to be a bit more eclectic. Sunset = my favourite time of day in Ibiza.

not strictly accurate - there are a fair few places around London town devoted to dancefloor obscurities and the balearic spirit of the 70s/80s. Am a big fan and a large part of my trip to Ibiza this summer will be chasing precisely that vibe.

anyone who shoves flyers for pony funky cheddar nights in my face will get a very hostile glare

+ there's nothing wrong with being a musical snob. it shows you have standards and have genuine passion for music and I don't see the crime in that...

Fair enough Johnny, maybe I worded that a little wrong. I know a lot (most as you say) would have been to see the sunset, I guess I kinda was trying to get the point across that theres more to the music than what the mega-clubs play. I got into hunting down a lot of the chilled stuff many years ago via some of the internet radio channels broadcasting out of Europe. Even the stuff known as "Beach House" to coin a phrase is sooo damn good. Really beautiful house that you could dance to, but also lie by the pool, or on the beach with. But the point is, whatever makes you feel goood personally is all that matters. No one can take that away from you eh? :D

I agree, but only to the point that musical taste is all relative. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. And its not nice to be rude to someone just because you think their taste is inferior to yours. Not saying anyone did that here, but you know the dance scene is rife with it. 8)

Very hot tip -

If you like eclectic sunset music, try The Blue Room and Blue Balearic. Awesome CDs which I still keep playing.

The Blue Room is one disc mixed by Rob Da Bank, one by Chris Coco - a tie-in with their old radio show. It came before Blue Balearic and is ever so slightly better. (Both are ace, mind.)

Id go to the Space Opening if I was you, Its not as hard as you probably think. The sunset Terrace Plays alot of funky baleric beats. Its only really the DiscoTech room that is hard.
