What use is a gun when fighting a fire?!
What use is condom when going out to a club? You do not need one till you need one.
You do not need a firearm to fight fires. But you do need every advantage possible possible when you have a 200+ lb gang banger(s) trying to force himself in your home so that he/they can have their way with you or your loved ones.
I am not advocating the point that if someone breaks into one's home and is trying to steal one's record collection that one would go out and hunt for the guy(s). Irrespective of the legal ramifications (you better hope you have someone like a Johnny Cochrane beside you in court), it is downright tactically stupid. But if the bad guy(s) changes intent to cause bodily harm to you or your loved ones, you should have the right (and ability) to use any force available at your means to defend your loved ones.
In the case of my friends, they were freaking out as there were absolutely no cops on the road (unless you were in the affected areas), everything became super quiet, and they were fearing something like the LA riots. Overblown imagination I guess.
Seriously LB, did everyone start robbing each other or did your gun remain holstered?
Yes Buckley, my sidearm remained holstered all the time. The impression that a lot of people get is that having a firearm is a replacement for brains and that gives one brass balls. Trust me, if you have a firearm on you, then you really need leave your ego and pride at home, locked in a box. If someone insults you in front of the entire neighborhood, then you have to swallow it. You cannot escalate the situation to the point where you have to use the firearm. If you did then in court you will have to make your case against all the witnesses who will say that it was you who escalated the situation. Try winning that case. You cannot go out seeking for trouble or trying to be Bruce Willis. You cannot consume any alcohol or even be at a bar. Even if you have to use a firearm you are responsible for the final resting place of the projectile; i.e. you cannot spray and pray.
You can only draw your weapon in case of imminent danger to your life or your loved ones. Period. When you carry a firearm on you, you have made a choice that someday you might have to use it to take someone's life. Period. If there is any doubt that you cannot do that if the time ever comes, then you should not carry a firearm.
i heard it was the most "civilised" disaster you could imagine. With Yoga and stress classes at the rescue centre and movies played on big screens etc. Obviously this was all gleaned from the daily mirror , but surely it wasn't anarchy?
Mark, you are correct about the yoga classes at Qualcomm Stadium. Losing a home to a disaster sucks. But, this was definitely not a Katrina as I said in an earlier post.
