Full Moon During CA Fires

Here is a picture of the moon that I took last night. It was taken using natural light with a shutter speed of 30s.

Hey LB. Is the redness due to the fires?

How are you holding up out there?

Yup! The redness is due to the fires. No Photoshop magic there.

We are holding up just fine over here. A few of my customers just managed to got back to their homes. The fires in Camp Pendleton reached within 200 yards of the coast.

A few of my friends and I had a communication center set up via the internet, cell phones and radios and a very central base setup to go to. In addition, all were ready with supplies to last 2 weeks. To be perfectly honest, we all practice "fire drills" on a pretty regular basis which basically constitutes getting ready and being mobile in 15 minutes or less. The fires proved a good example for us to be put our drills to the test. Now we are all making a list of:
  • What worked
  • What did not work
  • What we had and used
  • What we had and did not use
  • What we wished we had
  • Where did we go
  • Where could we have gone
  • Did we sync up with anyone
  • If so were they helpful or more of a burden
  • What would we do differently
In simple terms, we will dissect our "when Sh*t Hits The Fan" plan and see how we can improve it.

It was also interesting to see three of my friends (2 girls and a guy) living close to beach calling me frantically and asking if they could move in to my apartment if things got hairy, as I was armed. It's funny as they do not believe that anyone should have firearms, but when things could go the wrong way, I am the first one who gets a call. Sure I offered them my place, provided they brought their own supplies.

What use is a gun when fighting a fire?!

i heard it was the most "civilised" disaster you could imagine.

With Yoga and stress classes at the rescue centre and movies played on big screens etc.

Obviously this was all gleaned from the daily mirror , but surely it wasn't anarchy?

What use is condom when going out to a club? You do not need one till you need one.

You do not need a firearm to fight fires. But you do need every advantage possible possible when you have a 200+ lb gang banger(s) trying to force himself in your home so that he/they can have their way with you or your loved ones.

I am not advocating the point that if someone breaks into one's home and is trying to steal one's record collection that one would go out and hunt for the guy(s). Irrespective of the legal ramifications (you better hope you have someone like a Johnny Cochrane beside you in court), it is downright tactically stupid. But if the bad guy(s) changes intent to cause bodily harm to you or your loved ones, you should have the right (and ability) to use any force available at your means to defend your loved ones.

In the case of my friends, they were freaking out as there were absolutely no cops on the road (unless you were in the affected areas), everything became super quiet, and they were fearing something like the LA riots. Overblown imagination I guess.

Seriously LB, did everyone start robbing each other or did your gun remain holstered?

Yes Buckley, my sidearm remained holstered all the time. The impression that a lot of people get is that having a firearm is a replacement for brains and that gives one brass balls. Trust me, if you have a firearm on you, then you really need leave your ego and pride at home, locked in a box. If someone insults you in front of the entire neighborhood, then you have to swallow it. You cannot escalate the situation to the point where you have to use the firearm. If you did then in court you will have to make your case against all the witnesses who will say that it was you who escalated the situation. Try winning that case. You cannot go out seeking for trouble or trying to be Bruce Willis. You cannot consume any alcohol or even be at a bar. Even if you have to use a firearm you are responsible for the final resting place of the projectile; i.e. you cannot spray and pray.

You can only draw your weapon in case of imminent danger to your life or your loved ones. Period. When you carry a firearm on you, you have made a choice that someday you might have to use it to take someone's life. Period. If there is any doubt that you cannot do that if the time ever comes, then you should not carry a firearm.

Mark, you are correct about the yoga classes at Qualcomm Stadium. Losing a home to a disaster sucks. But, this was definitely not a Katrina as I said in an earlier post.
