That looks a bit more logical than jumping to the UK to get to NY. I think from Madrid it's easier, go to Lisboa and jumpt into the sea

I was just trying New York - Ibiza (which takes you through France for some reason) and couldn't figure out why there wasn't a second swim from Denia to San Antonio. Then I did a close up and figured out when they said "turn left" in Denia, they meant turn onto a ferry

In spanish it says something like: turn slightly on your right and it becomes Denia ____ Google defintly has something wrong with the orientation. From Ceuta to NY insist on going to France

Try from New York to Dublin it says (after swim across the Atlantic Ocean) go to France, England, Wales then Dublin..dear oh dear

Think they're going for the shortest swimming distance rather than shortest actual route...
