CHESHIRE CATZ
The first two releases on their new label FAKT, Wide Awake and the dubiously named Ringshifter, have gained the duo props from pretty much everyone - Sasha to Claude von Stroke, Tim Sheridan to Tom Middleton, Sebastien Leger to Funk D'Void. And then there's the recent remix of Coldcut and the tours of France, Canada and Denmark, plus their London history as the founders of "the Cheshire Sessions", a regular NYE house party that eventually ended up bigger than most clubs... Expect, as they call it, Wonkytech - influences from techno, house, minimal and electro, delivered in home-grown London party style.
SANCHO PANZA
BOTH DJS, ALL ROOM TWO, ALL NIGHT
Since their humble beginnings in a basement in north London on New Years Eve 1992, Matt Brown and Jimmy K-Tel have created some of London’s best-known warehouse night and one-off harbour parties. But what they're really famous for is running the biggest house system at Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s largest street party. That's 10,000 people roadblocked every year, partying alongside the extended Sancho Panza family which includes the likes of Layo & Bushwacka! Craig Richards, and Lee Burridge, starting with rude and rocking breaks-tinged house through to the most contemporary of electro.
ANIL CHAWLA
Now resident at forward-thinking London house night Together, Anil Chawla is fast making a name for himself on the UK house scene as a DJ and producer. After serving his apprenticeship at Turnmills and the River Bar in Maidstone, he has gone on to play at nights like The Gallery, Together, Sankeys Soap, Egg, AKA and the Honey Club in Brighton, and he is also resident at The Gallery's new night at Mission in Leeds. Chosen as Mixmag Future Hero in 2005, Anil's sound covers everything from deep and funky grooves to acid and electronic house.
BIG DADDY
The man behind Playtime the club and Playtime Records, "one of the best labels to come out of 2005" (IDJ), Big Daddy has long been the cheerleader for a new London sound built around local boys like Mike Monday, King Roc, the Cheshire Catz and internationals like Kerowack, Justin Martin and Claude von Stroke (whose first ever London gig with was Playtime). With Playtime about to have a summer break, GEEK is Big Daddy's only residency for the rest of 2006.
