Formentera

I must admit, I have never been to formentera, despite going to Ibiza around 10 to 12 times!...

Always intended to though, so would anyone recomened going with a 15month old boy and 4 year old girl?

(Other people to, just wondering what how "hospitable" it is there)

yep, just stay in the shade, it is dusty and hot so plan ahead for the well being of your kids but otherwise, it's pretty nice. And take a mask and snorkel, it's crystal clear over there

Maybe in the hour before your ferry back, the children might like to try to catch the tiddlers that swim around the shore of the lagoon (behind Cafe del Lago @ la Savina). It's so shallow they can wade out quite safely, and there are often little fishing nets to use if you search around the back of Hostal La savina (or just ask), use bread as bait and watch them fighting for a piece!. In summer it does get very hot there so cover up well. Enjoy!

One day solo in Formentera, end of April, start of May. Where would be best to stay?

I just really want a place to crash. I intend on hiring a moped in La Savina and seeing as much of the place as possible.

I'd be arriving in morning, so was thinking hiring a moped and going to the other end of the island. I didn't think hanging about at La Savina until my hotel could check me in would be the best use of my time there, so was thinking Migjorn or Es Calo? Good plan or due a rethink? Not got a hotel, don't need anything fancy. A restaurant / bar that would be open then nearby would be handy, btu not essential.

Thoughts?

phil we stayed in apartamentos es calo at the end of october which was great. definitely get a scooter, everything's max 20mins away by scooter from there (either side of the island). had also stayed at hotel maryland before in migjorn which was just as OK. and even though the rooms might not be ready yet, they'll definitely let you drop your luggage and off you go.

Cheers Stivi.

Apartmentos Es Calo look pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

I'm currently sitting at my office desk eating a pie enjoying the montage of photos on www.restauranteescalo.com

I love planning trips to Ibiza (and obviously Formentera now!) - the perfect tonic to UK Winter.

I get the feeling that once I've spent a small amount of time in Formentera I'm going to be going back fairly regularly.

At least a day on Formentera is a must for me on any future Ibiza trips after going there in June. Loved it.

Seems my day for exploring coincides with the local "Day of the Workers" holiday.

Will everything be completely shut? Or will cafes / bars etc. be open making the most of the holiday trade?

Any other must do suggestions for a 24 hour trip to Formentera? Best place to watch the sunset for example?

are you talking about 1st of may then? or what date? i'm sure bars, restaurants and cafés will be open phil.

i'd go to cala saona to watch the sunset. walk over to the left of the bay and follow the path over the rocks.

Yeah I arrive in Formentera 30th April. Im basically taking the opportunity to go over for 24 hours as my flight gets in on 29th at 2230 and I grudge paying the out of hours surcharge on a hire car! Plan is to stop overnight in Figueretas and catch the boat in the morning. Hire a scooter and see as much of the island as possible before returning to Ibiza on 1st, picking up my car then spending a few nights with friends in the north of Ibiza :)

I'm really taken by the idea of Es Calo. I really want a very quiet chilled out time.

everywhere will still be super chilled in formentera at the start of may don't you worry! :)

I've been going to ibiza since 91 and sill never made it to formentera. Made it to the ferry a few times but always got distracted somehow before it left.

Bought a 2nd hand ps3 last night on impulse so decided to try and save a bit cash. Booked the Roca Bella in Es Pujols. A snip at 38 quid for the night. I'm out in Edinburgh this weekend so the £1 booking fee swung it

Can't wait!

might go to formentera for 1 day in may or june.
whats the best way for some sightseeing there in 2016 -
(NOT: walking. bus. moped. bike.) ?
do they still rent these electric cars ? what car rental is good ?

there's really just car then icey. or inline skates if you're up for that :)
I've never rented a car before on formentera so sadly haven't got any hot tips I'm afraid.

I would get a car. I hired a Mehari from formenteracar.es Was €50 for 24 hours. It was an experience! Didn't have much dealings with them other than pick up and drop off. The girl met us at the port with the car. The 2nd year we went to them again and we got a Skoda Fabia that had seen better days but it did the job fine. I'd go back to them as I liked dealing with them but you may prefer one of the bigger chains in the port.

To be totally honest I'd suggest going 2 days if you can. Felt like i was rushing about in 24 hours trying to cram in chilling on beaches and seeing things. Im doing 3 days next time for more beach time :)
