Formentera

Can't believe I've never made it across to Formentera the past four times I've been to Ibiza, so definitely heading there this summer.

I'll be staying in PDB so is the best place to get the boat from by where Figueretas beach meets PDB beach? In previous years I've noticed that there are different companies that run the boats - is one better than the others? A glass-bottom one would be nice. Where do they drop you off in Formentera? I thought some allowed you to swim up to the island.

Also looking at hiring bicycles and exploring part of Formentera. Where's the best place to hire these and how much are they? Was looking at getting a scooter but bit worried by the safety aspect.

I'm assuming that the Blue Bar is a must-visit. Anywhere else?

So many questions!

You can get the boat from Figuretes but as Jon and Bec will tell you it will take you about half a day to get there  Much better to go to Ibiza Town and get the quick boat.

I'm a lazy cow so we've never hired bikes, we normally just get a taxi at the harbour to take us straight to the Blue Bar (it's about 15 euros in a taxi).

Cheers Babs! How much are the ferrys from Ibiza Town?

Also, how late do these run? I'd like to spend a good day there rather than heading back too early.

There's different prices dependent on what ferry you get, we've paid anything from 18-35 euros, we just normally just jump on the first one to depart.

I think they run til about 9pm, the latest we've got back is 7pm but I'd like to stay later in September and catch a sunset over there.

you can hire bikes very cheaply (about 10E) from loads of different places located about 30seconds walk from where the ferry disembarks. dont forget your passport and credit card for deposit.

you can cycle to blue bar in about 45 mins. when you get the bike, get a map.

The boat from Figuretas is the nice scenic route... it takes about 57 hours (or feels like it!) and you get to see lots of sights such as... the sea.... a distant Ibiza...some seagulls...er.... more sea etc etc

The sign LIES - it said one hour to Formentera, more like two and a half hours! We watched Bab's and Tom's super-ferry go speeding past us on the way back  ours was going so slow at one point I thought we'd have to get out a couple of oars and row back ourselves!! :spank:

And everytime a big boat went past your little rowing boat you got drenched 8O  ;)

Thanks for this, Becki. I get a bit sea-sick anyway, so I'd probably be green after a very slow boat trip! Definitely getting the ferry, plus it allows me to stay out later.

I got the boat from Figuretas and it was pretty quick as i recall.

There are different ones, as we tore past a smaller boat which departed from the same jetty as us beforehand.

You could choose to be dropped off at either a beach location which was beautiful with some gorgeous restaurants (which we chose) or to be dropped at the main resort.

I can't remember the name of the boat we went on but it did have a glass bottom (which was rubbish - as it was only clear when the boat stopped)
it was King something or other I think or Captain something or other. We turned up on the morning and bought tickets at the jetty.
