Formentera for a day

Ok so in all years of Ibizan jaunts I have yet to visit Formentera and am extremely upset about it!! For the past couple of years we have planned to do a day trip.."ya, ya, we'll go tomorrow"..and then something would distract us and we'd forget... So this year, I'm doing the trip on my own and I refuse to return home without having visited it.
I won't be hiring a car or scooter...maybe a bike or perhaps I'll just rely on local transit seeing as I'll mostly be at the beach and then wandering around town before heading back.
Can anyone give me any ideas as to how the bus service runs there...is it frequent? Can I grab it right from the port area? Any tips on how best to spend one full day there...
I'm at work and couldn't really scan the forum for related topics so I just thought I'd start this thread and see where it takes me..

when we went there was a bus waiting for the ferry to come in we got on the bus about 8 euros if i remember right it takes you to a beach were you stay for about 4 hours then you rejoin the bus and it takes you up a mountain to a bar were you stop for a quick drink very scenic you can see both ends of formentera from there you then rejoin the bus for a trip to the light house on the far end of the island [not good if you suffer from vertigo] the bus then drops you back at the ferry you have about an hour or so to look around the shops etc have a drink before you get the ferry home

Do you or anyone else for that matter happen to know which beach it was that you were dropped off at?? I am toggling between Illetes o Mijorn... I don't mind crowds and I don't mind the quiet either I'm just looking for a nice patch of sand and a beautiful view.. my time is limited on Formentera so I doubt I'll be able to hit both beaches while getting to see the town and wandering aimlessly before heading back to IBZ..so which should I choose??? :)

nadia this is were we were dropped of

as we walked over the dunes the sight just took our breath away, the bus drops you off at the end of a road,as you approch the beach there is a beach bar to your left, avoid it for food it was the worst meal we have had in four years of going to ibiza [formentera]if you walk to your right with the sea in front of you you will there is a small commercial area with bars and resturants as you walk up to the right it becomes more of a nudist beach,
i must say it is the most scenic place i have ever been, hope this helps

Nadia if you are lazy like me  we always get an early boat to Formentera so arrive about 9am, then get a taxi from the port to Plaja Migjorn (takes about 15/20 mins and costs about 18 euros) and then spend the day there, it's much quieter than Illetes, also you have the Blue Bar behind the beach which is lovely to chill out at and does really good food.

Ok...so I think maybe I've decided that I'll hire a bicycle after all.. I figure I may as well get some kind of cardio action on the holiday.. LOL... So, who can tell me if these bicycle hire places provide some kind of lock.. or should I be trucking it onto the sand with me :S LOL.. I'm used to not being able to leave a bicycle unlocked at any time..even if you're running into the corner store for a popsicle. I guess it's jaded me. LOL

I hired a bike... the bike lock they gave me may as well have been a piece of string!

all was good though.

Looking forward to going out this year and seeing it less crowded... didn't make it last year but was there in 2006.

I found it pretty easy to bike around...

LOL So, I guess I can bring my own string then... hehehe.. Thanks for all the info guys! I'm very much looking forward to this one day mini break away from the Ibiza.. Utagaura, when are you heading down?
