Hi all,

Few of us are thinking of NYE in Ibiza - have been coming to the island for years during summer and we would love to see the beautiful island in winter.

Has anyone got advice on getting to Ibiza during winter from the UK? What is the best way to get there? Via Barcelona? Which airline? How much does it cost? Also which clubs are open ... I know Pacha but Amnesia? DC10 on NYD???

If anyone could let us know that would be great.

Cheers all,

Jim.

hi there jimbob, considered the idea many times myself, theres a number of ways to do it ( i work on the airlines so think i know my stuff on this one!!)

you could get a cheap flight out to palma with a uk charterer as palma still accessable in the winter months, then get the ferry over to ibiza, which takes no more than an hour. my company thomsonfly does reasonable deals to palma, or u cud try one ov the no frills carrier, such as jet2.com or flybe etc

you could alternatevly fly into mainland spain.. barcelona or madrid, then take an iberia or spanair internal flight direct into ibiza

booking all the flights as seperate deals will be the cheapset way, and to keep it cheaper use a smaller uk airport such as leeds/doncaster/liverpool, the taxes/fuel charges out ov the big ones is goin up all the time. obviously try to get internet deals rather than using travel companies, as the prices hoyke right up over the festive season

hope this helps, and av a great time when u get there, which im sure u will

p.s as far as i know pacha/space/amnesia all open but none ov the others, cant imagine dc10 getting the atmosphere quite right in the colder months!!:p

Hello and thanks a lot for the very detailed reply!x

We are def going to look into it - Palma looks like the best option. Am going with a few guys/girls from Manchester/Leeds/Sheffield/Notts so will prob go from either Liverpool, Leeds/Doncaster or East Mids airports.

Might see you on the plane or in your coat at DC10! (Got some mates who live out there and coats are a funny addition to the Terraces on NYD)!!!

Cheers. :):)

P.S. Flew with Thomsonfly 5 times this summer to Ibiza - good flights/people. 8)8)

Flew back to England for Xmas then back home to Ibiza on 30th for new year last year, It was Iberia to Palma, Then not sure who but to Bristol, cost €300 each, return, It was about 40 Min's waiting time between the flights, On the way back, flight from Bristol was delayed by 1 hour so missed connection to Ibiza, got to Palma thinking " ohhh s**t we are going to be in Palma airport for new year " went to desk to be told " take your bags over there to check in , the next flight leaves in 20 Min's :) apparently there is a flight about every hour,

New year ; It`s a bit different here, most people don`t do the English thing of getting slaughtered new years eve, celebrating @ 12 then fading out, the Spanish usually spend up to 12 with friends and family eating a big meal/ having a get-together, then they celebrate new years day starting at 1 min past 12 :)
Went to Aura and was going to move on to pacha but didn`t make it from Aura till ( I was told) about 6,30 am, got home, put my shorts on and took the dog for a walk on the beach to chill out a little.
Not a bad way to start a year :)
Have a good one
Tim

ps If you are still here on the 6th Jan, that is when the Spanish celbrate 3 king`s day, more like Xmas day to them, lots of parades, 3 kings on floats throwing sweet`s to everyone, also lots of fireworks over the whole period, Lot`s of fireworks and fiesta`s in the winter, thats why it`s the best time of year !!!! :)

3 kings day holiday is on the 6th but most of the parades take place on the night of the 5th.

in san an the 3 kings arrive in the bay by the tourist train, are taken by glass bottom boat to the harbour and then parade round town on floats pulled by tractors. they go to the church to give their gifts to the baby jesus and then they go to the big marqueee to give out the presents to all the boys and girls. it really is great fun.

You know what happens to days here in winter lol :) I was at San Carlos last year, as you say, floats chucking loads of sweets, church , etc was a nice one,
Just looking at Santa Eulalia fiesta program for the winter, same as last year, starts before Xmas and last`s until May / June, I have a friend who lives above the square in town, the live music outdoors after 12 rule seem to go right out the window, very large sound system belting out all different sorts of stuff till sometimes 4am lol
have a good one
